Project Overview:
Turnup Jigawa is a transformative initiative dedicated to empowering and engaging the youth of Jigawa in the democratic process. It is youth-led civic engagement project that aims at building active youth changemakers in democracy who are capable of engaging their communities with policy makers to address grassroot problems in Jigawa state. It’s an initiative of Yiaga Africa’s Turnup Democracy Challenge 1.0 in collaboration with Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO).
Why Turnup Jigawa?
Our project aims to provide a platform for young individuals to actively participate in democracy, fostering leadership skills, civic engagement, and a deeper understanding of governance.
Activities of the Project:
1. Youth Leadership Trainings and Workshop: We will conduct workshops to train young people on policy analysis, advocacy, and effective civic engagement with policymakers.
2. Campus Tour: We will support campus tour aimed at educating and raising awareness among students about the principles, values, and importance of democracy by visiting universities and college of educations in Jigawa state.
3. Town Hall Meeting: We will also facilitate townhall meeting with the House of Assembly Committee on Youth Development
4. Social Media Campaigns: We’ll launch social media campaigns to raise awareness about social cohesion and democracy by holding Twitter Spaces and Facebook conferences.
5. Radio Programs: Hold a series of radio program discussing with young legislators in Jigawa state using local language (Hausa) on the promotion of social cohesion.

Young and passionate youth involvement in the agro-industry is the real game changer for the Africa continent. The African agriculture we want is in winning with the youth because youth knows better.
There is a distinct need to organize and bring youth together to improve their capacities for collective ACTION in agricultural value chain, we see a rising Africa population and a decreasing agricultural productivity. Therefore, pushing the agenda of youth-led African agriculture that promote innovation and entrepreneurship in democratizing opportunities in the agricultural value chain is the new playbook.
We hereby offer to Train students especially those in Agricultural field on how to tap into various agricultural value chain and make our food system stronger.
