OBITUARY: PROFESSOR LAI OSO, MNAL (1956 – 2023)

The President, Nigerian Academy of Letters (NAL), Professor Duro Oni, FNAL, regrets to announce the transition of Professor Muraino Olayiwola Oso (Lai Oso), a renowned Mass Communication Professor at the Lagos State University. The sad event happened on Saturday (24 June, 2023) evening when his car reportedly plunged into a river along the Ijebu axis of Ogun State. It was gathered that the distinguished Professor and dedicated member of NAL was returning to Lagos from Delta State University (DELSU), where he was an external examiner at the Department of Mass Communication.

The 67-year-old Prof. Lai Oso was educated at the University of Lagos (B.Sc. Mass Communication), Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife (M.Sc. International Relations) and obtained a Ph.D. degree in Mass Communication as a Federal Government scholar at the University of Leicester, England . He was a communication and media studies teacher at Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, from where he headed for Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye and later, the Lagos State University.

Professor Lai Oso will be sorely missed by family, friends, colleagues, former students, the NAL family and the entire intellectual humanistic community.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by the family.

May his soul rest in peace.
