*VETERINARY TEACHING HOSPITAL, MOUAU × IVSA MOUAU × AVMS MOUAU PRESENTS WORLD RABIES DAY 2026*

In commemoration of *World Rabies Day 2026*, the *Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH), Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike* in collaboration with the *International Veterinary Students' Association (IVSA), and Association of Veterinary Medical Students, MOUAU Chapter*, is pleased to announce a week-long program with the theme: *"Stronger Together"*.

Rabies remains a deadly but 100% vaccine-preventable disease, claiming an estimated 59,000 lives annually, mostly children under 15 in Asia and Africa. This year's commemoration emphasizes collaborative action, responsible pet ownership, and mass vaccination as key to elimination.

*SCHEDULE OF ACTIVITIES:*

*> Tuesday, September 22:* Radio jingles and advertorials on selected electronic media within Abia State.

*> Friday, September 25, 2026:* Hybrid seminar on the topic: _Integrated Spatial Epidemiological Approaches to Inform Canine Rabies Elimination Efforts in Nigeria._

*> Saturday, September 26, 2026:* Free anti-rabies vaccination campaign in designated locations within Umuahia, Abia State.

*> Monday, September 28 (World Rabies Day):* Public sensitization talk on a selected radio channel in Umuahia, and continuation of free anti-rabies vaccination within the Small Animal Clinic of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital.

Because vaccinating 70% of dogs breaks the transmission chain, immediate post-exposure vaccination saves lives, and together, we can eliminate rabies.

We invite all staff, students, dog owners, and the general public to participate actively.
