Kayode Feyisetan Adekunle, Ph.D., was recruited directly from Sweden to pioneer the new Department of Chemical Engineering at the Michael Okpara University, Umudike on the 6th of December 2011. Subsequently, the department recruited several academic and non-academic staff who helped in laying the foundation of the department. Under his leadership, he took the department through NUC Resource Verification in 2012/2013 and in 2014/2015 for NUC Accreditation. Subsequently, he led the department through COREN Accreditation. During his tenure, he was able to establish four well-furnished chemical engineering laboratories. He was promoted to the professorial cadre in 2015 and also started postgraduate programmes at the department in 2016. Prof. Kayode Adekunle is a committed individual who sacrificed social life to build the department with his competent team. Prof. Kayode Adekunle is currently the Senior Research Advisor at the Blekinge Institute of Technology, Karlskrona, Sweden, and the Director of Strategic International Collaboration.
