Many business owners are afraid of setting up a proper inventory system because they think it's stressful or unnecessary.

But here's something many people don't know...

Inventory doesn't just protect you from staff theft—it also helps you know whether your supplier is honest.

Over the years at Fomegcurtains and Fomegbeddings , we sold curtains straight from rolls, measuring and cutting as customers bought. Like many businesses, we simply trusted the quantity our suppliers told us was inside each roll.

The truth is, we never really knew if we were getting the exact yardage or metreage we paid for.

Everything changed when we implemented a proper inventory system.

Now, after every sale, our inventory tells us exactly what should be left in each roll. We can easily measure or even estimate the remaining quantity and compare it with our records.

That simple process has helped us identify which suppliers are reliable and consistent—and it has also protected us from hidden losses.

Inventory is not just about knowing what is in your store. It's about protecting your money, holding suppliers accountable, reducing losses, and building a business you can trust.

Don't wait until you start losing money before you take inventory seriously. The businesses that track their stock are the businesses that grow with confidence.

Many business owners spend so much time worrying about competition that they forget to fix the real problem—their own business.

One of the biggest mistakes you can make is becoming too focused on your competitors while leaving loopholes in your business.

A customer walks into your shop, asks for a product, and the response is always, "It's sold out."

If "sold out" has become a regular part of your business, you're giving your competitors an advantage without realizing it.

Imagine having a simple low-stock system that alerts you before products run out. Instead of disappointing customers, you're always ready to serve them.

Over time, people begin to associate your business with one thing: "They always have what I need."

That reputation is a powerful competitive advantage. Customers don't just remember the cheapest seller—they remember the seller who is reliable.

Stop focusing only on the competition. Build systems that make your business dependable, and you'll stay ahead.

Position your business to win, not just to compete.

Growing up, we never missed school for flimsy reasons, especially because of rain. No school bus. My father wouldn't drop you off. No tricycle either. You would trek to school and trek back home, then report that you attended classes.

I learnt industriousness from him.

My father worked in a plant, and one thing he always said was, "You can't leave work because it's raining, who are you leaving the plant for, what if there was explosion". He had those two-sided jackets—one side for cold, the other for rain—and he had plenty of them. If the rain was heavy, you wore one and kept moving.

But growing up, he was extremely hard on me.

For some reason, he always gave me the toughest jobs. I used to wonder if he couldn't see my older brothers. Why was I the one washing trucks, transferring granite, carrying blocks, and doing every masculine job you can imagine? He could wake up in the morning and assign me any task he wished.

Honestly, I carried those experiences with bitterness.

The day I gained admission into school, I fled. 😂 I didn't want to come back home.

But today, I realize that man was building something in me.

He gave me a large heart. You can't easily shake me with words. I see life from different angles. I learnt to interact and hold conversations with people far older than me.

Even during my apprenticeship, my boss was tough on me. If my child was ill, she still monitored me to ensure I resumed work, even if it was half-day. I was just an apprentice, but she made sure I treated the business like it was my own.

And I did.

I took ownership. I handled that shop with passion because I have always been good at seeing the outcome of situations before they happen.

Today, when I see staff resuming late and giving one excuse after another, I just smile.

Life has taught me that excuses rarely build anything worthwhile.

One thing I find difficult is working with people who are not serious about their lives. I have zero tolerance for laziness. If you are committed, I will go to war with you. If you are committed to excuses, we cannot journey together.

Looking back now, all those experiences I once resented became the foundation upon which I built my life and business.

Sometimes, the lessons we hate the most are the ones that prepare us best for the future.

For many years in business, I dreamed of running a well-organized business with less stress.

At some point, it felt like just a dream. I took every ugly experience I encountered in business and wrote beside it a better way it could have been done.

Our previous setup was largely unstructured. Goods would go missing and no one could account for them. Products were scattered across different warehouses, causing unnecessary delays.

Many times, we lost urgent sales because customers who were in a hurry couldn't wait for us to locate items from different storage locations.

Instead of accepting these challenges as normal, I began to envision something better. I prayed for a bigger space where I could bring my vision to life. With pen and paper, I would draw and redesign my dream showroom over and over again.

One of my biggest dreams was to arrange our curtains, beddings, poles, mattress protectors, and accessories in a proper departmental shop pattern.

Today, I understand more than ever that a departmental shop is not just about beauty; it is about efficiency, accountability, customer satisfaction, and business growth.

A well-organized departmental shop:
✅ Makes products easy to find.
✅ Reduces losses and improves accountability.
✅ Saves time for both staff and customers.
✅ Creates a better shopping experience.
✅ Increases customer confidence and trust. ✅ Helps businesses handle more sales efficiently.
✅ Gives every product category its own identity and visibility.

Organization is not an expense; it is an investment in growth. Every successful business should strive to create systems that reduce stress, improve service delivery, and make the business easier to manage.

The dream is gradually becoming reality, and I'm grateful for every lesson the journey has taught me.

There was a time I could not leave my shop for even one month without fear.

No structure. No proper inventory system. No accountability.

Every time I traveled or attended an event, my heart would race because I was scared of theft, missing stock, and losses.

But today, everything has changed.

I discovered that STRUCTURE is the backbone of every successful business.

When your business has structure, you can breathe, travel, rest, and still stay in control.

This is one of the major reasons I created FOMEG BUSINESS SCHOOL.

At FOMEG BUSINESS SCHOOL, I teach business owners how to properly structure their businesses starting from inventory management, bookkeeping, accountability systems, and business organization.

Your business should not depend on your physical presence before it functions.

Structure is not stress… structure is freedom.

Welcome to FOMEG BUSINESS SCHOOL — where we build businesses that can grow with or without you present.

People admire bosses who are jovial, accessible, and free with their staff.

What they rarely talk about is the danger of overfamiliarity in leadership.

When boundaries disappear:

• Respect starts reducing
• Instructions become optional
• Correction feels offensive
• Accountability becomes difficult

A good leader can be kind, approachable, and still maintain structure.

Leadership is not about creating fear, but familiarity should never erase authority. Be warm, Be human, But never lose the leadership culture that keeps the business running effectively.

One day it finally clicks…

We may be selling the same product, but we are NOT the same.

Our audience is different.
Our approach is different.
Our mindset, vision, and aspirations? Completely different.

And that’s a good thing.

Because the moment you understand this, you stop competing blindly…and start building intentionally.

You stop copying…and start creating.

You stop feeling threatened…and start focusing.

There’s room for all of us —but only if you know WHO you’re talking to and WHY your brand exists.

Dear business owner, your uniqueness is not a weakness…it’s your greatest advantage.

📍 Build YOUR lane
📍 Own YOUR voice
📍 Win YOUR way

During the MAAD Marketing Conference in 2024, one statement hit me hard:

“Money will only come into your business when you make money move.”

That line stayed with me.

Anytime sales feel slow, anytime I feel discouraged, I remember—money doesn’t respond to complaints, it responds to action.

Dear entrepreneur, Instead of complaining every day about poor sales…

What money move are you making in your business?

📍 Are you marketing consistently?

📍 Are you running ads or just hoping customers show up?

📍 Are you following up on leads?

📍 Are you improving your product presentation?

📍 Are you creating offers people can’t ignore?

Because the truth is simple: No movement = No money.

So today, dust yourself up and make a move.

Your next sale is hiding inside your next action.

Business owners, let’s be honest…

How do you cope with being out of stock every other day?

Is it lack of structure… or lack of proper stock management?

Because the truth is — customers won’t keep understanding forever.

Today they come and buy… tomorrow they return and hear “no stock.”

Next time? They won’t even bother coming back.

You can never walk into a store and hear, “Dangote noodles is out of stock.”

Why? Systems. Planning. Structure.
And no — you don’t have to be a big brand to get it right.

Even as a small business owner, you can:

✅ Track what sells fast

✅ Restock before you run out

✅ Set minimum stock levels

✅ Plan ahead for demand

Out of stock shouldn’t be your normal… it should be rare.

Because every time you don’t have what your customer wants, someone else is ready to take that sale.

Build systems. Stay ready. Sell consistently.

MARKETING WITHOUT STRUCTURE WILL COST YOU MORE THAN YOU CAN IMMAGINE

You spend so much on marketing because you want to increase your revenue… but your own staff is dragging you BACKWARDS.

Orders are coming in, messages are dropping, customers are ready…but response is slow, mistakes are happening, energy is low.

It’s frustrating because the problem is no longer sales — it’s ex*****on.

You know how annoying that feels?

To pay for growth and still feel stuck.

Here’s the truth:

Marketing bring customers, but systems and people keep them.

What needs to be done?

Set clear roles — everyone should know exactly what they’re responsible for.

Create simple processes — how to respond, how to confirm orders, how to deliver.

Train your staff — don’t assume they know, show them how you want it done.

Track performance — what gets measured gets improved.

And most importantly, don’t tolerate consistent laziness — it will cost you money.

Your business can only grow to the level your team can handle.

Don’t just invest in marketing… invest in structure too.
