Before 2026 JAMB Registration Begins, Put These Things in Place
If you are planning to sit for the 2026 UTME or Direct Entry, now is not the time to relax. Registration is expected to start around January, and JAMB has already released early guidelines to help candidates prepare.
One important update to note is this. During registration, candidates will be required to state whether they are already admitted into any tertiary institution or not. This makes early preparation even more important.
Below are practical things you should sort out now, before registration officially begins.
1. Get Your NIN Ready
Your National Identification Number is compulsory. No NIN, no JAMB registration.
If you do not have one yet, visit any approved NIMC enrolment centre as soon as possible. Do not wait until registration starts, because delays and crowds are common. If you already have a NIN, confirm that all your details are correct.
2. Secure a Personal Phone Number
You will need a registered phone number to generate your JAMB profile code. This is done by sending your NIN to the shortcode JAMB will provide.
Make sure the phone number belongs to you or someone you can always reach. All JAMB messages, including important updates, will be sent to this number.
3. Create a Working Email Address
An email address is mandatory during registration. It also serves as a backup if you ever lose access to your phone number.
If you do not have one, create a free email on Gmail. Write down the email and password and keep them safe.
4. Decide on Your Course Early
Do not wait until registration day to choose a course. Sit down and think it through.
5. Choose Your School Carefully
Decide on the institution you want to apply to before registration starts. Check if the school offers your course. Look at their admission requirements, fees, and location.
6. Know the Correct Subject Combination
Every course has specific subject requirements. Choosing the wrong combination is one of the biggest mistakes candidates make.
7. Ask for Guidance if You Are Confused
If you are unsure about your course choice, school, or subject combination, do not guess.
