LAW STUDENTS` SOCIETY, UDUS CONCLUDES HOLIDAY STUDY VISITS WITH COURTESY VISIT TO THE NIGERIAN COPYRIGHT COMMISSION (NCC)
The Law Students’ Society, Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (LSS-UDUS), has successfully concluded its series of holiday academic and institutional engagements with a final official study visit to the Office of the Director-General of the Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC), Abuja.
The delegation was received on behalf of the Director-General, Barrister John O. Asein, by the Director, Nigerian Copyright Academy (NCA), Mrs. Funmi Adewale, as the Director-General was on leave. The reception accorded the delegation was warm, engaging, and highly enlightening.
SUMMARY OF THE VISIT
1. Purpose of the Visit
The delegation embarked on the official study visit to deepen its understanding of the mandate, operations, and strategic role of the Nigerian Copyright Commission in copyright administration, protection, and enforcement in Nigeria.
2. Previous Engagements
The visit formed part of a broader Intellectual Property (IP) learning tour undertaken by LSS-UDUS, following earlier engagements with:
• The Trademarks Registry, Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment
• The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Nigeria Office
• The Director-General, National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion (NOTAP)
3. Interest in Intellectual Property
The delegation expressed keen interest in strengthening its knowledge of Intellectual Property Law, particularly copyright, and understanding the impact and contributions of the Commission to Nigeria’s creative, academic, and innovation ecosystems.
4. Invitation to IP Summit
LAWSAN-UDUS formally invited the Director-General and officials of the Commission to its upcoming Intellectual Property Summit scheduled to hold at Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto.
5. Student Engagement and Inclusion
The delegation requested that LAWSAN-UDUS be included in forthcoming

LNC’25 DAY ONE HIGHLIGHTS — LAWSAN UDUS CHAPTER REPRESENTED WITH DISTINCTION
The LAWSAN National Convention 2025 (LNC’25) officially commenced today with the Opening Ceremony and the Symposium/Legislative Summit themed “Law, Governance & Ethics.”
The event brought together eminent legal minds, national student leaders, and distinguished personalities from across the country.
The LAWSAN UDUS Chapter was duly and ably represented by:
• R.E/Comr. Ibrahim Shafiu Adamu, President, LAWSAN UDUS
• Comr. Mukhtar Tambari Usman, Auditor-General, LAWSAN UDUS
• Comr. Nasir Nauwara Usman
• Comr. Faruk Bilkis
In one of the key moments captured today, the LAWSAN UDUS President stood alongside:
• Blessing Adeogo Ayankanmi, GCOL, the First Female President of LAWSAN and the current National President
• Anyiam Christian Kelechukwu, the Immediate Past National President of LAWSAN
together with other members of the UDUS delegation.
The Symposium featured intellectually engaging sessions with renowned speakers, including:
• Prof. Ernest Ojukwu, SAN
• J. J. Usman, SAN – Keynote Speaker
• Barr. Deji Adeyanju
• Barr. Sofiyyullahi Balogun
• Etaba Agbor, Esq. (Secretary, NBA–YLF)
Participants also benefited from multiple panel discussions led by distinguished legal practitioners and thought leaders, setting a high standard for the days ahead.
Yesterday marked the arrival, registration, and cocktail reception, officially welcoming delegates from across all LAWSAN chapters.
The Convention continues tomorrow with another round of events, including the highly anticipated election of new National LAWSAN executives.
