WAEC 2025 REGISTRATION UPDATE.
To Principals of Public Schools and Proprietors of Private Schools:
WASSCE FOR SCHOOL CANDIDATES, 2026:
RE-FLOAT OF ENTRIES FOR THE e-REGISTRATION OF CANDIDATES
Please recall that the Federal Government of Nigeria recently reviewed and restructured the curriculum for Senior Secondary Education in Nigeria and directed that the new structure takes effect from 2025/2026 academic calendar.
The structure consists of Core, Electives and Trade Subjects as indicated in Appendix A.
1. THE NEW STRUCTURED CURRICULUM
(1) Subjects to be offered by candidates were categorized into the under listed distinct fields
(a) Core Subjects
(b) Science Subjects
(c) Humanities Subjects
(d) Business Subjects
(e) Trade Subjects
(2) There are five (5) core subjects
(a) English Language
(b) General Mathematics
(c) *Citizenship and Heritage Studies
(d) *Digital Technologies
(e) One Trade Subject (candidates are to select one (1) Trade subject from the list of six (6) Trade Subjects
*Citizenship & Heritage Studies and Digital Technologies are new subjects that require the development of new curricula and examination syllabus and would therefore not be examined until 2028 (after a full implementation of the syllabus).
(3) Candidates for WASSCE in 2026 and 2027 would only be able to sit three (3) of the core subjects: (a) English Language
(b) General Mathematics
(c) One (1) trade subject
(4) In addition to the three (3) core subjects currently available, candidates are to select five or six other subjects to make a minimum of eight subjects and a maximum of nine subjects. Candidates will not be restricted in the selection of electives.
(5) The number of trade subjects have been streamlined to six (6) (See Appendix A).
(6) The total number of subjects available for WASSCE with effect from 2026 have been reviewed down to thirty-six (36) (See Appendix B).
(7) The reviewed subjects: Catering Craft and five (5) of the streamlined six (6) trade subjects are already in existence (only that the subject names were changed) (See Appendix C). The curricula for the existing subjects would be adopted for the subjects with similar names.
(8) The sixth trade subject: Horticulture and Crop Production is a branch of Agricultural Science from which the examination syllabus and examination questions/test papers would be derived (the section of the Agricultural Science Syllabus from which the examination syllabus is derived will be communicated).
2. ENTRY PERIOD
Upload of CASS 1 & 2 - Tuesday, August 19 to Wednesday, December 31, 2025
Offline Registration - Tuesday, September 16 to Wednesday, December 31, 2025
Online Registration - Monday, September 22, 2025 to Friday, January 17, 2026
All schools must therefore complete the offline registration on or before Wednesday, December 31, 2025.
3. EXAMINATION FEES AND COST OF ENTRY DOCUMENTS/MATERIALS
Examination fees and cost of entry documents/materials remains as earlier stipulated.
