Some verbs are followed by adjectives because they describe the subject.

Look at these:

✅ The food tastes delicious.
✅ She looks beautiful.
✅ The flowers smell wonderful.
✅ I feel tired.

Words such as look, feel, smell, taste and seem can function as linking verbs.

After them, we often need an adjective describing the subject.

So:

✅ “She looks beautiful.”

Not:

❌ “She looks beautifully” when you mean her appearance.

Exam Question

The soup smells ___.

A. wonderfully

B. wonderful

✅ Answer: (?)

STOP SAYING “MORE BETTER”

Better is already comparative.
So we say:

✅ This book is better than that one.
Not:

❌ This book is more better than that one.
The same applies to:

✅ worse

❌ more worse
And:

✅ best

❌ most best

Some adjectives form their comparison irregularly:

good → better → best
bad → worse → worst

So don't automatically add more or most to every adjective.

Quick Test

Which is correct?
A. This method is more better.
B. This method is better.

Answer(?)

Exam Tip:
When you see better, worse, best or worst, check carefully before adding another comparative or superlative word.

Not every letter you see should be pronounced

One reason English pronunciation can be tricky is that some letters appear in spelling but are not pronounced.

Look at these words:

✅ knife — the K is silent
✅ know — the K is silent
✅ honest — the H is silent
✅ debt — the B is silent

This is why trying to pronounce every letter you see can lead to mistakes.

For example, the word knife does not begin with the same sound as king, even though both begin with the letter K in writing.

Exam Tip:

In Oral English questions, don't depend only on spelling.

Say the word mentally and listen for the actual sound.

Quick Question:

Which word contains a silent letter?

A. Knee
B. Key
C. Keep
D. Kick

The expression "get through" can be used when someone successfully completes or survives something difficult.

For example:

✅ “She managed to get through the examination.”

This means she successfully completed it.

You could also say:

✅ “The family helped him get through a difficult period.”

Here, it means helping him survive or cope with that difficult time.

So don't always expect a phrasal verb to have only one rigid dictionary meaning.

The sentence helps you understand exactly how it is being used.

Quick Test:

“The students managed to ___ the difficult examination.”

A. get through
B. get away
C. get across

✅ Answer: (?)

Exam Tip:
When answering phrasal-verb questions, read the complete sentence before choosing an option. The surrounding words usually tell you which meaning fits.

One word can have different meanings when used in different sentences.

Therefore, do not study vocabulary/new words in isolation. Study them in context ✍️
