Senate Resolution Confers Approval for BCHS Programme at Federal University Dutse, Establishing First-of-Its-Kind Federal University Partnership with Community Health Practitioners Registration Board of Nigeria (CHPRBN).

The Senate of Federal University Dutse, Jigawa State, has approved the launch of the Bachelor of Community Health Science (BCHS) programme. This makes it the first federal university in Nigeria to run the BCHS through a formal partnership with the Community Health Practitioners Registration Board of Nigeria (CHPRBN).

The decision creates a landmark link between academia and professional regulation, aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s health workforce with standardized, competency-based training. The Senate’s approval followed due process and aligns with existing regulatory frameworks for community health education.

CHPRBN Registrar/CEO, Assoc. Prof. Bashir Idris, was commended for his leadership and advocacy in turning regulatory policy into academic action. The Vice-Chancellor of Federal University Dutse was also praised for guiding the innovative programme through the university’s highest decision-making body.

Legally and institutionally, the partnership sets a precedent for structured collaboration between federal universities and regulatory bodies. The BCHS programme will blend theory, field practice, and regulatory compliance to produce globally competitive community health professionals.

The approval positions Federal University Dutse as a national leader in community health education and strengthens CHPRBN’s mandate. Stakeholders see it as a defining step toward regulatory alignment, academic excellence, and Nigeria’s goal of universal health coverage.
