ABSOLUTE TRUTH 💯 💯 💯
THE CERTIFICATE GOT YOU THROUGH THE DOOR. BUT WHAT WILL MAKE THEM HIRE YOU?

Ober years, we were taught to believe that getting a degree was the ultimate preparation for the future.
But the world of work has changed.

Today, employers are looking beyond certificates. They want people who can think, create, solve problems, use digital tools, and deliver real results.

That is where the skill gap becomes a serious problem.
The solution is not to throw away your certificate.
The solution is to add practical, in-demand skills to what you already have.

💻 Build digital skills.
🧠 Develop critical thinking.
📁 Work on real projects.
📚 Keep learning and improving.
Because when your education meets practical skills, you don't just stand out—you become more prepared for opportunities.
Stand out. Get skilled. Get ready. Thrive! 🚀
And this is exactly why I created the Skill Gap Solution Blueprint—a practical guide designed to help you understand the gap and take intentional steps toward becoming more skill-ready.

🔥 The Skill Gap Solution Blueprint is going LIVE on SELAR soonest!
If you don't want to be left behind in a world where skills speak louder than certificates, watch this space. Something practical is coming!

WHO IS TO BLAME?
From the part 1 of my story and the part 2,
please who is to be Blamed?
The employer?
The system?
The educational system?
Or perhaps the person who was never told early enough that a certificate and a job are not the only things you should prepare for?

Now imagine two graduates.
They attended the same school.
They sat in the same classroom.
They received the same certificate.
But one graduated with practical, income-generating skills…
while the other graduated with only the certificate.
Same school.
Same class.
Different skills.
Different opportunities.
Different outcomes.

This is why I keep talking about the Education and Skill Gap.

Note this important fact:
The world is no longer asking, ‘What did you study?
It’s asking, ‘What can you do?’”
“Bridging the skill gap is not about knowing more—it’s about knowing what to do with what you know.”

You spent years earning a certificate. But what if the missing piece between your education and your next opportunity is a practical skill?

That’s exactly what this guide was created to solve.”

PART 2: THE JOB SEARCH THAT OPENED MY EYES

If you followed Part 1 of my banking story, you already know how 12 years of dedicated service ended—with a dismissal and a Peanut as a payoff

But honestly, losing the job wasn't the biggest shock.
The real shock began when I I started looking for another one.

I thought my 12 years of banking experience would speak for me.
After all, I had experience. I worked hard. I had handled responsibilities. I had sacrificed weekends and worked long hours.
So I thought, "At least finding another job shouldn't be too difficult."

Shockingly?? I was wrong.

Then came the interviews.
And the explanations.

"You are too old for this position."
"You are overqualified."
"We are looking for younger candidates."
"With your experience, we may not be able to afford you."

The grammar and excuses I heard were things I had never imagined.

For the first time, I began to understand a painful reality:
You can spend years being excellent at one job and still find yourself unprepared when that job disappears.

And that was when I started looking beyond the traditional job market.
I discovered something that completely changed my perspective...

There were opportunities everywhere.
But there was one problem:
I had spent 12 years working, but I hadn't spent those 12 years intentionally building additional marketable skills.

And that realization hit differently.
Because sometimes, the problem isn't that opportunities don't exist.
The problem is that we are not prepared to take advantage of them when they appear.
And this is where my story gets even more interesting..

What happened next completely changed the way I looked at jobs, education, and practical skills.

I discovered that opportunities were not as scarce as I thought.
I was simply not prepared for many of them.
And that realization taught me a lesson I wish I had learned much earlier.

👉 Part 3 is coming next. Stay with me—this is the part you really don't want to miss.

12 YEARS IN THE BANK — AND I LEFT WITH PEANUT AS PAYOFF

For 12 years, I worked as a contract staff with a certain bank in Nigeria
Year after year, I heard promises:
"Just keep working hard. Your time for permanent staffing will come."

So I kept going.
I worked long hours. I handled weekend call duties. I gave my best. I sacrificed. I stayed committed.
But after 12 years, my salary was barely 78,000 as highest increase

Then, a particular year came , everything changed.
The bank decided that contract staff who had spent more than 8 years had to leave so they could bring in fresh graduates. Who will still be employed with their National Diploma and same promises for permanent staffing applies

And just like that, after 12 years of hard work, my youthful and fruitful years have gone .. Yes I was dropped just like that!!?
My payoff?
Less than ₦550,000.

Twelve years of service??
Reduced to peanut as payoff??
Sent back to labour market in search of another job??

But the real shock came afterwards.
I started looking for another job.
Then I heard some grammar and excuses I have never heard all my life

Part 2 of this story will surely open your eyes........

To be continued…..

This is exactly why I created my guide 💪 Skill Gap Solution Blueprint
