TEACHERS, LET’S HAVE A PEACEFUL TERM!

Parents will complain this term. 😅

Some complaints will be genuine, some may come from misunderstanding, and some may come when emotions are high.

But remember this: HOW WE RESPOND MATTERS!

✍️ 5 GOLDEN RULES FOR HANDLING PARENTS’ COMPLAINT

1️⃣ Listen first, respond later.
Don’t interrupt or become defensive.

2️⃣ Never argue with a parent.
Even when you believe you are right, remain respectful.

3️⃣ Don’t respond in anger.
A harsh reply can turn a small issue into a big problem.

4️⃣ Clarify before concluding.
Ask questions and understand what actually happened.

5️⃣ Know when to involve the school management.
Not every issue should be handled alone.

✍️ REMEMBER:

A parent is not necessarily attacking you because they complained. Sometimes, they simply want to be heard.

Let’s make this term a term of PATIENT COMMUNICATION, RESPECT, TEAMWORK & PEACE.

🤔QUICK COMMENT:

Teachers, what is the #1 rule you think every teacher should follow when handling an angry parent?

2️⃣ Stay calm

TEACHERS, THE HOLIDAY IS OVER… BUT SOME “HOLIDAY CHARACTERS” HAVE JUST RESUMED!

Dear Teachers, welcome back!

During a long holiday, children pick up different habits—some good, some funny, and some that can seriously affect the learning environment.

You may meet the talkative child, the stubborn one, the attention seeker, the overly playful child, the “I know everything” child, or even the quiet child who suddenly becomes withdrawn.

But here is the secret:

DON’T FIGHT THE CHARACTER. UNDERSTAND IT AND GUIDE IT.

5 THINGS TEACHERS SHOULD DO

1️⃣ Observe before you judge.
Give the child time to settle back into the school routine. Don't label a child based on the first few days.

2️⃣ Re-establish classroom rules.
Make expectations clear from Day 1—respect, punctuality, participation, cleanliness and responsible behaviour.

3️⃣ Correct privately when possible.
Public embarrassment can make a child defensive. Correct the behaviour without destroying the child's confidence.

4️⃣ Give difficult personalities responsibility.
The talkative child can lead a group discussion. The playful child can help with classroom activities. Sometimes, the right responsibility can turn a problem into a strength.

5️⃣ Be consistent.
Don't tolerate a behaviour today and punish it tomorrow. Children learn quickly when teachers are fair and consistent.

REMEMBER:

A child's behaviour may be challenging, but the child is not the behaviour.

Your job is not just to teach Mathematics, English or Science.

Your job is also to help children develop the character and discipline they need for life.

TEACHERS, LET'S TALK!

Which character usually gives teachers the biggest headache after a long holiday?

The Talkative One
The Stubborn One
The Overly Playful One
The “I Know Everything” One
The Suddenly Quiet One

TEACHERS, DON’T WASTE THE FIRST WEEK OF RESUMPTION!

The first week of resumption can determine how the rest of your session will look.

Don’t rush into teaching alone. Before you start chasing the syllabus, build the classroom first!

Here are 7 things every teacher should do in Week 1:

1. Welcome your pupils/students warmly.
Let them feel safe, valued and excited to be back.

2. Set your classroom rules early.
Make expectations clear from Day 1. What you tolerate in Week 1 may become difficult to correct later.

3. Get to know your learners.
Know their names, strengths, weaknesses, interests and learning needs.

4. Assess what they remember.
Use simple activities or questions to discover what they retained from the previous session. Don’t assume everyone is at the same level.

5. Build a relationship before demanding results.
A child who trusts you is more likely to listen, participate and learn.

6. Observe their behaviour carefully.
The quiet child, the overly active child, the struggling learner and the natural leader all need different approaches.

7. Start with ENERGY!
Your attitude in the first week can influence the attitude of your learners for the entire term. Come prepared, neat, positive and enthusiastic.

💡 REMEMBER:
The first week is not just about teaching lessons. It is about setting the tone for the entire academic session.
