This is what we do at Adopt Initiative
We take changing lives personal because we know one live changed can change a generation
A generation is in mind when we think about one person that’s why Adopt exists ant this is what we do
Gender-based violence is still a serious issue in Nigeria, and it affects people in homes, schools, workplaces, and communities. It includes physical, emotional, sexual, and financial abuse, and it can happen to anyone, though women and girls are most affected. Many victims stay silent because of fear, shame, or lack of support, but silence only allows the problem to continue.
We all have a role to play in ending this. Speak up when you see abuse. Support victims, don’t blame them. Teach respect, consent, and equality from a young age. Communities must create safe spaces where people can report violence without fear.
In Nigeria, laws exist to protect victims, but awareness and enforcement must be stronger.

Everybody says consent matters… but what does it actually mean?
Consent is more than just saying “yes.”
It means both people are comfortable and willing without pressure, fear, or confusion.
Remember:
1. Silence is not consent.
2. “Maybe” is not consent
3. Consent can be withdrawn at any time
Respecting boundaries is a sign of maturity
Real care and healthy relationships are built on respect, communication, and understanding.
Let’s normalize conversations about consent among young people because awareness creates safer spaces for everyone.

Do you really know you?
Listen to this adolescent as she talks about self esteem and self confidence, you don’t need validation to be and do you.
How you enter into a room is first a consciousness of who you are…
A study in Gombe found that among students who reported being r***d, lecturers were
responsible for approximately 22.6% of the cases (Ajayi et al.,2021). Many Nigerian
universities lack clear internal policies or reporting mechanisms for sexual harassment, which
forces victims into a culture of silence for fear of academic retaliation.
As a survival mechanism, many students adopt an avoidance behaviour strategy where they stop using
certain campus facilities or attending late night academic sessions to minimize risk. Persistent
fear and anxiety does not just threaten physical safety but also attacks the students mental
capacity to learn. Fear also constrains participation in extracurricular activities and peer
interaction, weakening the sense of belonging necessary for academic persistence.

This month is not just awareness.
It’s a reminder that we cannot keep waiting
If education doesn’t include safety, respect, and consent, then we are leaving something dangerously incomplete.
Because before she becomes a statistic, she was just a girl in a classroom like this.
