TEACHER IS NOT THE ONLY PERSON TO BE BLAMED WHEN A STUDENT FAILED

One Monday morning, Mrs. Ade, a private school proprietor, was in her office when an angry parent barged in with her son.

"Madam, I am tired of this school! My son is not improving. Your teachers are not teaching well.

……. Your teachers are not qualified to be called teacher"

Mrs. Ade calmly asked the parent a few questions which goes does:

— Does your child do his homework? – Yes, there is no homework you give that my child doesn't do.

– Do you check his notebooks and school work? – Yes, I do check his note even though I am a busy person

– Does he read at home? – Yes, he normally reads at home.

The proprietress asked her secretary to call the child’s class teacher and also asked the student to go bring his school bag.

After series of checks and questioning of the class teacher, the following were discovered;

✔️ The student does not have a complete note in most of his subjects.

✔️ He hardly does his assignments by himself, instead he will copy from his friends and submit them to the teacher.

✔️ He does not have a daily reading timetable which shows that he read his subjects at random.

Added to that is a high level of indiscipline in the child because he knows that his teacher cannot beat him,

else his parents will come and fight the teacher plus the school.

At that moment, it was clear—this parent expected the school to do all the work while the child and the parents refused to do that part.

Many teachers work hard to help their students succeed, but when a child fails, ALL THE BLAME is placed on the school and

most school proprietors in turn put all the BLAME ON THE TEACHER . This is unfair and wrong.

WHY TEACHERS SHOULD NOT BE BLAMED ALONE

🎯 1. Education is a Partnership

A child’s education is a joint effort between the teacher, the school, and the parents.

Teachers can teach, but if a child does not study at home, do assignments, or get parental support, learning will be difficult.

🎯 2. Every Child Learns Differently

Some students understand topics quickly, while others need more time.

A teacher may be teaching well, but if a child has learning difficulties, they need extra attention—not blame on the teacher.

🎯. 3. Parental Involvement Matters

Many parents do not check their children’s books or monitor their progress.

A child who does not read at home, do homework, or revise what was taught in school will perform poorly in his academic.

🎯 4. Some Students Are Simply Not Serious

There are students who refuse to pay attention in class, play during lessons, and never do their work.

When they fail, is it the teacher’s fault? A teacher can only teach, but a child must be willing to learn.

🎯 5. A Teacher Teaches, but a Student Must Learn and Study

A teacher’s job is to explain and guide, but the student must also make an effort to study.

A child who refuses to read or practice what was taught cannot blame the teacher for failure.

A CALL TO PARENTS AND SCHOOL PROPRIETORS

✔️ TO PARENTS: Do not put the whole blame for your child’s poor academic performance on the school or the teacher.

Be involved in your child’s learning. Monitor their studies, ensure they do their homework, and encourage them to take education seriously.

✔️ TO SCHOOL PROPRIETORS: Support your teachers.

Do not allow parents to insult or put the whole blame on them (that will be unfair).

Ensure your teachers are doing their best, but also let the parents know their role in their child’s academic success.

To the society at large, teachers are not magicians.

If a child must succeed, it requires effort from the teacher, the parents, and the child.

Let’s stop the blame game and work together to help our children (students) learn better and acquire better education!
