"Surrounded by Idiots" by Thomas Erikson
This book explains that interpersonal conflicts often stem from differing communication styles rather than stupidity.
Using the DISC model, it classifies behaviors into four colours;
1. Red (Dominance): Results-oriented, fast-paced, decisive, and assertive.
2. Yellow (Influence): Optimistic, creative, social, and enthusiastic.
3. Green (Steadiness): Amiable, reliable, conflict-averse, and patient.
4. Blue (Compliance): Analytical, detail-oriented, structured, and perfectionist.
The book emphasizes that by understanding these four types, individuals can stop seeing others as "idiots" and start tailoring their communication for better relationships at work and in life.
This book is a must read for every student in EDP๐ฅฐ๐ฅฐ

Everyone learns differently. A method that works perfectly for one person may not work at all for another. Knowing the different study strategies and how to apply them can make your learning more effective, improve memory retention, and reduce exam stress.
Hereโs a breakdown of the main strategies: ๐
๐ 1. Visual Learning (Learning Through Images & Graphics)
Visual learners remember information better when itโs presented in pictures, diagrams, charts, or videos.
๐ 2. Auditory Learning (Learning Through Listening)
Auditory learners retain information best by hearing it. They benefit from listening to explanations, recordings, or discussions.
๐ 3. Reading/Writing Strategy (Learning Through Text)
This strategy works best for students who learn by reading and writing information repeatedly.
๐ 4. Kinesthetic / Hands-On Learning (Learning by Doing)
Kinesthetic learners understand and remember information best by actively doing something rather than just reading or listening.
๐ 5. Active Recall (Testing Yourself Instead of Just Reviewing)
Active recall involves actively trying to remember information rather than just re-reading it. This strengthens memory and makes it easier to retrieve during exams.
๐ 6. Spaced Repetition (Revisiting Information Over Time)
Spaced repetition means reviewing topics multiple times at increasing intervals to improve long-term memory.
๐ 7. Interleaving (Mixing Topics During Study)
Instead of focusing on one subject for hours, interleaving mixes multiple subjects or topics. This helps the brain recognize patterns and improve problem-solving.
๐ 8. Mnemonics & Memory Aids
Mnemonics are memory devices that help you remember complex information using simple tricks, acronyms, or rhymes.
๐ 9. Study Groups / Collaborative Learning
Learning with peers encourages discussion, explanation, and mutual problem-solving.
Some students remember better by seeing (visual learners), others by listening (auditory learners).
Some prefer writing notes repeatedly, while others learn by doing exercises or practicing problems. Using the wrong method can waste time and increase frustration. So, identify your learning style and use strategies that match it. Thatโs how studying becomes efficient, enjoyable, and effective.
Comment below which learning style suits you best ๐
