📚 Sequencing in Year 1 Literacy 📚
Sequencing is a foundational skill in Year 1 that helps learners organise events in the correct order , strengthening reading comprehension, speaking, and early writing.
In our classrooms, children are learning to:
✔️ Identify the beginning, middle, and end of a story
✔️ Retell events in the correct order
✔️ Use time connectives like first, next, then, finally
✔️ Order 3–5 picture or sentence cards independently
✔️ Write simple sentences that follow a clear sequence
✔️ Explain simple processes step by step
Mastering sequencing builds confident storytellers and thoughtful writers. It also develops logical thinking and understanding of cause and effect.
