The Foundation — Hard (Technical) Skills

Hard skills are the core abilities that prove you can do the work. They are measurable, teachable, and often tied to tools, knowledge, or processes. Examples

* Graphic design, video editing, coding, accounting, photography
* Data analysis, engineering, copywriting, marketing strategy

Why they matter most at the beginning

* They make you employable or useful.
* They show competence (This person can perform this task).
* They differentiate you from people who have ideas but no capability.

Hard skills are like the entry ticket.
Without them, you don’t enter the room.

Growth & Visibility — Soft Skills

As you move higher, the expectations change. Now the question becomes:

“Can this person work well with others, lead, adapt, and grow?”

Soft skills are about behavior, character, and emotional intelligence.

Examples

* Communication & storytelling
* Leadership & teamwork
* Critical thinking & problem-solving
* Self-discipline & time management

These skills determine:

* Whether people trust you
* Whether you can lead or collaborate

At higher levels, success becomes less about what you can do alone and more about how you work with people.

People are promoted not just because they can work, but because they can:

* Manage others
* Handle responsibility
* Influence outcomes
* Represent the organization well

That’s why many highly skilled people stay stuck:

They only developed competence, not character or leadership capacity.

At the top, leaders hire others for hard skills…
…but succeed because of vision, judgment, integrity, and communication.

KEY NOTE:

Hard skills may get you hired. Soft Skills determine how far you rise. And how long you last.

* Keep learning technical competence
* Keep building character, wisdom, and people skills

As we grow, we realize not everything is worth chasing or holding unto.

Growing up as kids, when we fail to do our assignment, our teacher will first ask the reason for not doing the assignment, trust every Nigeria child, we all have a perfect EXCUSE to give.

However, as we grow we are subconsciously reminded that the world of life plays no card of excuse.

Irrespective of your sincere and honest excuse, Life will sort a way to punish you for every failed assignment.

There is an expendable useful energy we exude when we are FOCUSED.

BE FOCUS!

ANYBODY CAN TALK

Anybody can talk including a 6 months child. But not everyone can speak even at 60 years.

Public speaking is beyond talking, it is a SKILL. Having few social media videos you posted online does not make you a public speaker; he takes a lot becoming one.

One of the ways you identify a good public speaker is:

1. Ability to start and hold conversation for more than 2 hours

2. Ability to talk on any subject matter; by this I mean delivery an impromptu speech with poise and excellence.

There are others but these two top the list for me.

There is an adage that says, "a solider do not learn how to shoot the gun on the battle Field, he learns to do that even before the battle began unless he risk losing his life."

One of the ways to help your public speaking journey is by reading books and practicing what you have read by actually SPEAKING.

Recently, I observed I have so much grown especially speaking in public (still feel nervous some times), but count down to 5 years ago, it was not so. I am that guy who couldn't give a one minute opening prayer during an open meeting.

One thing that helped me and still helping me is READING. I read everyday; I am a product of many books (history books, journals, manufacturing books, agriculture, spiritual books, business books, motivational books etc).

Developing a healthy reading culture help increase your "WORD BANK" and expand your horizon of knowledge. I can't emphasize reading enough. Please, reading if you wanna be a great public speaker.

I have a thousand and one word to talk on this subject matter but for now, digest this one.

STOP WAITING, START YOUR CONTENT CREATION JOURNEY TODAY...

Can I be honest with you? If you are waiting to get everything before you get started, you can never start anything.

Recently, a friend came to my room and she was wondering the place I use in shooting my videos (hehehe). She couldn't find it.

Since I can't afford a professional studio for now, I turn my room into a mini-studio; I have to shift couple of things before shooting my video if I am using indoor.

Likewise the phone I use (NOT even an iphone).

However, I have learnt the magic of creating a stunning video via colour grading, camera angles and the techniques of shooting a good video.

Like Steve Harris will always say, "It is not what you don't have that is limiting you; it is what you have but you don't use."

I'll add by saying, "...what you have but you don't know how to use."

Content creation is a serious hard work because you have to be constantly thinking, documenting down ideas, stories, plans, buying gadgets, clothes, visiting locations, etc....

Last week thursday, I met a lady who happens to be dance content Creator. I checked her TikTok followers and it is almost fifty thousand (50,000). I was amazed.

We got into more conversations and I realized she has spent the last one month in different hotels just simply because she wanna shoot her videos using a quality location.

Then again, I was very impressed; going all her way just to create dance content. That really inspired me.

Back to me message, JUST START with what you have. It can be your small android phone, your room, your laptop, two friends, few clothes, little knowledge of presentation, etc.... just start with what you have.

Don't be limited by what you don't have.

Strength comes as you work; more materials come as you begin to create more content.

The most interesting part is, you get better the more you engage in creating more. Growths actually comes by doing NOT waiting.

We don't measure growth by waiting, we measure growth by moving.

Never allow the way you speak or how you will sound limit you from starting because as you speak, you improve.
