Nigeria Association of Special Education Teachers (NASET) has being in existence since April,1981 when it was inaugurated at the University of lbadan, department of Special education, Nigeria, by interested lecturers and teachers of special needs learners across Nigeria ,as a professional association, dedicated solely to meeting the needs of special education teachers and those intending to be in
the field of special education teaching. The association was registered with the corporate Affairs Commission in 1986 as a corporate entity and since then it has being in operation. The ultimate aim of the association among others is to advocate for special needs education and to organise the teachers of special needs learner into a formidable association, In order to promote the profession of special education teachers, and to provide a national forum for their Ideas and critical needs. It also seeks to enhance knowledge, skills, and attitude of special educators, as well as protecting the Rights of special needs learners and their teachers. To advance the professionals education through research, training and retraining courses, release of Newsletters and Journal publication as well keep her members abreast of current issues that are shaping the profession. Nigeria NASET holds annual workshops and conferences, as well as enlightenment campaign, sensitisation and advocacy, and importantly, it networks to break social, economic and attitudinal barriers facing the individuals with special challenges, as to ensure independence and better quality of life for persons with special needs. NASET further ensures that all children and adolescents with special needs receive appropriate education and services .NASET seeks to promote the implementation of the National Policy on Education and the Blue Print on Special Education In Nigeria via advocacy and networking.
