*WORDS ON MARBLE*
❝Don’t sin to seek pleasure. For the pleasure of sin will pass by quickly but the possibility of punishment will linger forever.
And don’t leave out worship when feeling it’s burden. For the burden will pass by quickly but the possibility of being rewarded will remain forever!❞
*~ Sheikh Hasan Ali*

Advice and Advise
Advice
Advice is a noun and the ending is pronounced as "ICE", the "C'' of Advice sounds like an "S".
Advice means an opinion recommended or offered as worthy to be followed. Advice is something you give, take, receive or use. It is a thing(recommendation) given to, or taken from, someone.
Advice is an uncountable noun. You can't say an advice or many advices, however, it can be divided into units of measurement that can be pluralized such as pieces of advice or words of advice.
Examples.
I need your advice on what to wear to my sister's wedding.
We can no longer give you advice.
She really needs some basic financial advice.
Advise.
Advise is a verb and the ending is pronounced as "IZE". The "S" of the advise sounds like a "Z".
Advise means to recommend, give advice to, inform or notify someone about something.
It means to suggest what should be done, to recommend, or give information to someone.
It is something you do or someone does.
Advise is a regular verb, it takes conjugations like advises, advises to agree with the subject, and tense.
Examples.
I advised her to study for her exam.
He needed someone to advise him.
The lawyer advised her of her rights.

WHO AND WHOM
‘Who’ and ‘whom’ are sometimes confused in their usage and in many instances who is used in place of whom. Here, the usage of these two pronouns is explicitly explained.
‘Who’ and ‘whom’ are relative pronouns used to replace nouns/noun that has already been mentioned or that do not need to be named specifically.
‘Who’ is used to refer to someone who is doing something and ‘whom’ is used to referred to someone who is having something done to them.
WHO
*WHO IS A SUBJECTIVE PRONOUN. IT ACTS AS THE SUBJECT OF THE VERB. A SUBJECT OF A SENTENCE IS THE DOER OF AN ACTION. ‘WHO’ IS USED TO GIVE MORE INFORMATION ABOUT THE PERSON OR PERSONS MENTIONED PREVIOUSLY IN A SENTENCE.
Bola is a writer who enjoys writing. (She enjoys writing)
Tola is my friend who is a banker. (He is a banker)
I don’t know who got the answer right. (He or she got the answer right)
*WHO SHOULD BE USED TO ASK QUESTION OF WHICH PERSON OR PEOPLE DID SOMETHING.
Who made this beautiful dress?
Who is going home tonight?
*WHO CAN BE USED AS A SUBSTITUTE FOR (HE, SHE OR THEY)
He took my money is the answer to the question “who took my money?” ‘Who’ is used as a substitute for ‘he’.
“She is his mother” is the answer to the question “who is his mother?” ‘who’ replaced ‘she'.
WHOM
*WHOM IS AN OBJECTIVE PRONOUN. AN OBJECT OF A SENTENCE IS THE RECEIVER OF AN ACTION. ‘WHOM’ IS THE OBJECT OF A VERB OR A PREPOSITION. IF THE PRONOUN IS AN OBJECT WHOM SHOULD BE USED.
I do not know with whom I will go with.
Binta is the lady whom I told you about.
This is my sister whom you met at the library last year.
They demanded a huge ransom for the return of the little girl whom they had kidnapped.
*WHOM CAN BE USED AS A SUBSTITUTE FOR (HIM, HER, OR THEM).
“The book is written by her” is the answer to the question “the book is written by whom?” or by whom is the book written?” ‘whom’ is used as a substitute for ‘her’
“I am speaking with him’’ is the answer to the question “with whom am I speaking?” ‘whom’ is used as a substitute for ‘him’.
*WHOM SHOULD BE USED AFTER A PREPOSITION AT THE BEGINNING OF A SENTENCE OR A CLAUSE.
To whom it may concern.
My father for whom I am doing this for.
From whom did you receive this beautiful bag?
EXAMPLE
Who is fooling who? (Wrong)
Who is fooling whom? (Correct)
Use ‘who’ if it can be replaced with ‘he/she/they’. And use ‘whom’ if it can be replaced with ‘him/her/them’. ‘Who is fooling whom’ is correct because the sentence can be rewritten as ‘who is fooling him/her/them?’.
*WHO IS OFTEN USED IN AN INFORMAL WRITING AND SPEECH, WHILE WHOM IS USED IN A FORMAL WRITING AND SPEECH.
Who did you give it to? (Informal)
To whom did you give it to? (Formal)
Is this helpful?
