*INTERVIEW WITH THE ACADEMIC DIRECTOR, NASES UI–FCES OYO*
*_Interview by Ajibade Oluwaseun and George Rebecca_*
*In an effort to keep students informed and academically motivated for the semester, the departmental press engaged the Academic Director of NASES UI–FCES Oyo in a brief conversation on expectations, support systems, and guidance for academic success.
*
*Good afternoon ma'am. Can you please introduce yourself?*
_Good afternoon. I’m Efiong Rachael Boluwatife, the Academic Director of NASES UI–FCES Oyo._
*What does your position as Academic Director of NASES entail?*
As the Academic Director, I oversee academic-related activities within the department. I focus on initiatives that promote students’ academic excellence and ensure they have the necessary support to succeed._
*_What are your academic expectations for students this semester?_*
_I expect students to aim for excellent results this semester. We want them to make the best use of available academic resources, attend tutorials, and remain committed to their studies in order to achieve outstanding outcomes._
*Have you taken any steps toward improving academic performance in the department?_*
Yes, we have organized a committee that will oversee tutorials and collaborate with other academic programs to boost the academic success of the department.
*What are some common academic mistakes students make, and how can they avoid them?*
One common mistake is mixing up course codes and titles, which can lead to registration errors. Students should carefully confirm their course codes and seek guidance when necessary. They should also improve their personal reading habits and be aware of all the courses they are offering._
*_How does the Academic Directorate support students facing academic challenges?_*
We provide academic guidance and support through tutorials and one-on-one consultations. Students can also approach the appropriate lecturers for clarification and assistance when needed.
*What study strategy would you recommend to students?_*
_Personally, I recommend reading bit by bit consistently rather than cramming. Students should cultivate the habit of taking notes and reviewing them regularly._
*What should students understand about assessments?*
Students should know that all assessments; classwork, assignments, tests, and examinations contribute to their final grades and overall CGPA. Every academic activity counts._
*_What advice do you have for freshers and final-year students?_*
For freshers, this is the time to take their studies seriously and build a strong CGPA foundation. For final-year students, they should focus on their projects and maintain regular communication with their supervisors to ensure timely completion._
*How can students balance academics with business or other responsibilities _?_*
As a business owner myself, I understand the challenge. Students must learn how to balance both by managing their time effectively and setting priorities.
*As the semester progresses, what final advice would you give to students?*
Students should not be afraid of any course. With determination and consistent effort, they can pass all their courses successfully._
*_Are you working alone or collaborating with other executives?_*
_We are working together as a team. As the saying goes, “A tree cannot make a forest.” We are working collectively toward a common goal._
The conversation highlights the Academic Directorate’s commitment to academic excellence, structured support, and student success. Students are therefore encouraged to remain focused, disciplined, and proactive throughout the semester.
