The brain generates electricity through the movement of charged ions across neuron membranes, creating an electrical impulse known as an action potential. This process starts with ion pumps that maintain a charge difference, with more sodium ions (\(Na^{+}\)) pumped out and potassium ions (\(K^{+}\)) pumped in, making the inside of the neuron negative. When a neuron is stimulated, it triggers a chain reaction: sodium channels open, allowing sodium to rush in and depolarize the cell, followed by potassium channels opening to let potassium rush out and repolarize the cell.
