BY NURSES CONNECT-HUB
ON URGENT DEMAND FOR PROSECUTION AND PUBLIC ACCOUNTABILITY IN THE R**E AND MURDER OF ACHUMBA CHINWENDU “WENDY”
Achumba Chinwendu Wendy was an Abia-born graduate midwife from Abia State College of Nursing Sciences, ABSUTH Aba. At the time of her death, she was undertaking her Post-Basic Nursing program at Our Lady of Mercy Nursing School, Umulogho, Imo State.
Re: R**e and Murder of Post-Basic Student Nurse Achumba Chinwendu by Suspects Now in Custody.
We write to formally demand immediate and transparent action regarding the r**e and murder of our student, Achumba Chinwendu Wendy between 21st–22nd May 2026 in her lodge room opposite the school compound, Umulogho, Obowo.
* Report suggests that crime was motivated by rejection and obsession. Wendy allegedly rejected the romantic advances of one suspect, who then conspired with another to assault and kill her.
* It is alleged that Wendy was r**ed and her throat was slit to silence her.
* One suspect is identified as a vulcanizer operating in front of the lodge. Reports state he has prior involvement in the r**e and murder of a 15-year-old secondary school girl, and a previous attempted r**e and stabbing of a nurse who survived. This would make Wendy his third alleged victim.
* The second suspect is described as a young man running a power bank business in the area.
* We acknowledge reports that both suspects have been apprehended, and investigations are ongoing.
OUR DEMANDS WITHIN 14 DAYS
* Immediate arraignment and prosecution of both suspects under the Violence Against Persons Prohibition Act 2015 and the Criminal Code of Imo State. No plea bargains.
* Public confirmation of arrests and charges to the school, family, and public.
* Thorough investigation into prior crimes allegedly committed by the primary suspect. We demand to know why he remained at large after previous offenses.
* Security review and action plan for student lodges in Umulogho, including liaison with landlords and local security.
* Provision of psychosocial support for students and staff traumatized by this event.
* If there is no public update within 14 days, we will proceed with peaceful processions to Government House Owerri and Umuahia respectively,to submit official petition and register our displeasure.
This case represents a systemic failure to protect young women. The fact that one suspect allegedly had prior victims raises urgent questions about accountability within the justice and community policing systems.
We will be monitoring this case closely and will escalate to the Inspector General of Police, the Minister of Women Affairs, the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives, and the international media if there is any delay, cover-up, or miscarriage of justice.
Wendy’s blood cries for justice. We will not be silent.
