📢 NEW CURRICULUM UPDATE FOR TEACHERS

Lesson planning under the *New Revised Basic Education Curriculum is different from the old curriculum.* It is now strongly *competency, skill and outcome-based* — not simply “teach the topic and ask questions.”

Every lesson now connects:

✅ *Focal Competence* – the specific competence learners should develop from the topic.

✅ *Key Competencies & Values* – such as Creativity & Innovation, Critical Thinking, Collaboration, Communication and ICT/Digital Competencies.

✅ *Skills* – what the learner should actually be able to *DO*, not merely what they should know.

And most importantly, these must show in the *actual lesson delivery and pupils’ activities.*

So a lesson plan cannot simply carry these new headings — *the activities, teaching, assessment and classroom delivery must actually develop the stated competencies and skills.*

The new curriculum is moving us from mainly *“What did the pupil learn?”* to *“What can the pupil understand, demonstrate and actually DO?”* 🎯

📚 WHY FEEDBACK MATTERS IN THE CLASSROOM

Marking a pupil’s work is important, but giving feedback is what helps the learner improve.

Many times, pupils see only ticks, crosses, scores, or corrections in their books. But they may not fully understand what they did well, what they missed, or how to do better next time.

Good feedback guides the learner.

It does not only say, “This is wrong.”
It helps the child understand, “This is how you can improve.”

For example, instead of only writing:

❌ Wrong

A teacher can write or say:

✅ Good attempt, but check your spelling.
✅ You understand the idea, but your sentence needs more details.
✅ Your answer is correct, now try to explain how you got it.
✅ Revise this step and try again.

Feedback helps learners know that mistakes are not the end of learning. They are part of the process.

It also builds confidence because the child begins to see improvement as something possible.

Teachers can make feedback more effective by keeping it simple, clear, kind, and specific.

A pupil may not remember every score they received, but they may remember the teacher who helped them understand how to do better.

Good feedback does not discourage learners.

It points them forward.

📚 REVISION SHOULD NOT ONLY COME BEFORE EXAMS
Many teachers wait until examination period before they begin serious revision with learners❌.

But revision is more effective when it becomes a regular part of classroom learning.
Children forget easily, especially when many topics are taught within a short time. A lesson that was clear last week may become confusing if it is not revisited.

This is why teachers should build small revision moments into their weekly teaching.
Revision does not always have to be long. It can be as simple as;
✅ Asking three questions from the previous lesson
✅ Giving a short class activity
✅ Letting pupils explain what they remember
✅ Using quick quizzes
✅ Revisiting difficult examples
✅ Asking learners to correct past mistakes
✅ Connecting old topics to new ones

Regular revision helps learners remember better, gain confidence, and prepare gradually instead of rushing when exams are near. It also helps the teacher identify topics that need to be explained again.

A good teacher does not only teach new topics. A good teacher also helps learners retain what has already been taught🙂.
Remember, Learning becomes stronger when revision becomes a habit.

🌟 CONFIDENCE IS ALSO PART OF LEARNING

A child may know the answer but still be afraid to speak.
Sometimes, learners are not quiet because they do not understand. They may be quiet because they fear making mistakes, being laughed at, or giving the wrong answer.

This is why teachers should not only focus on what children learn, but also on how confident they feel while learning.

A confident learner is more willing to ask questions, try difficult tasks, participate in class, and learn from mistakes.

Teachers can build confidence in simple ways:
✅ Praise effort, not only correct answers
✅ Avoid embarrassing pupils when they make mistakes
✅ Give learners time to think before answering
✅ Allow group or pair discussions
✅ Encourage shy pupils gently
✅ Celebrate small improvements
✅ Remind learners that mistakes are part of learning

When children feel safe, they participate better.
A good classroom is not one where pupils are afraid to be wrong. It is one where they are encouraged to try, think, speak, and grow.

Confidence does not appear in a child overnight. It is built through patience, encouragement, and consistent support from the teacher.

A teacher’s words can make a child believe, “I can do this.”
And sometimes, that belief is where real learning begins. 📚✨

🌱 EVERY CHILD LEARNS DIFFERENTLY

One important truth every teacher should remember is this: children do not all learn the same way.

Some learners understand quickly when they hear an explanation. Some need to see pictures or diagrams. Some understand better when they touch objects, practise examples, or discuss with classmates.

This is why one teaching method may not work for every child in the classroom.

A good teacher tries to vary the lesson so that more learners can connect with it.

For example, when teaching a topic, you can:

✅ Explain clearly
✅ Use pictures or drawings
✅ Give real-life examples
✅ Allow learners to practise
✅ Ask questions
✅ Let pupils discuss briefly
✅ Use simple activities or objects

When lessons are presented in different ways, more children get the chance to understand.

Some pupils are not dull. They may simply need the lesson explained in a way that matches how they learn best.

Teaching becomes more effective when we stop asking, “Why is this child not learning?” and start asking, “How else can I teach this child?”

A great teacher does not give up easily.

A great teacher keeps finding ways to help every learner grow. 📚✨
