I am sure you've seen this report already.

2021 JAMB RESULT:

6,944,368 wrote JAMB.

973,384 passed JAMB.

5,970,984 failed JAMB.

14% passed and 86% failed.

The result is so bad that there were reports that JAMB is organising a makeup exam for those that failed, though JAMB has long come out to refute that.

But this results shows two things in my opinion:

1. Most young Nigerians have lost confidence in education. They no longer believe that going to school will give them the future of their dream.

2. JAMB has their own issue and should not be trusted as the only route to gaining admission into higher institution.

What can we do about these?

As for the first problem, we continue to encourage as many as care to listen to keep seeking university education while also exploring other interests.

As for number 2, so many people are still ignorant of the fact that JAMB is no longer the only approved examination for gaining admission into university.

I have before written on this space about JOINT UNIVERSITY PRELIMINARY EXAMINATION BOARD (JUPEB). JUPEB is officially approved by Federal government as the body responsible for conducting examination for those seeking direct entry admission into universities (whether Federal, State or Private University).

Incidentally, there are many advantages JUPEB have over JAMB.

1. Whereas JAMB will give you admission to 100 level, JUPEB gives you admission direct to 200 level.

2. For those that are just leaving secondary school, JUPEB gives you the opportunity of continuing in an academic environment thereby keeping your brain and mind active rather than getting rusty where you are waiting for JAMB.

3. The structure of JUPEB is such that your admission is ALMOST guaranteed (you have about 95% chance of getting admission as against JAMB that has reduced to 14%).

4. With JUPEB you can gain admission to any school of your choice, no discrimination of whatever sort.

5. With JUPEB you can get admission to study any course of your choice.

6. JUPEB is more cost effective on the long run. The money you could have spent throughout year one is probably more than the tuition you pay for JUPEB. And for those going to purchase admission in private universities where you pay 800k to 1.5m not because you really want private university for your child (if you truly prefer private university it is fine) but because he couldn't score enough point for State or Federal Universities, just know that the average fee to run a JUPEB programme is about 250k, that is about 20 to 25% of the tuition of a private university.

While I am not discouraging you from buying another JAMB form, I just want you to know that there is an alternative now (it has always been there though).

Let me just add that JUPEB is no inferior to JAMB in any way, it is not for grade B students, it is not for those who couldn't pass JAMB. JUPEB has exactly equal power as JAMB (maybe slightly more power since JAMB can't give you admission to 200 level). Through JUPEB you still enjoy every privilege JAMB offers.
