DAY 5: What I Learned This Week on My Bag-Making Journey.

This week was serious learning for me, and I just want to document it here because the growth is already showing, even though I’m still learning every single day.

So here’s what I discovered this week 👇🏽
1. How to Source Good Leather
I finally learned how to choose quality leather.
Not every leather is strong enough for bags — some peel, some crack, some don’t last.

I learned that:
When you bend leather, it should bounce back without leaving a mark.
You should scratch it lightly to test the strength.
If it tears too easily, you can still use it, but you MUST add the right interfacing.

It felt so good understanding this because leather is the soul of the bag.

2. Different Types of Interfacing
Honestly, this one blew my mind 😅
There are so many types of interfacing, and each one plays a different role.

I learned about:
Fiver
Foam
Maco
Chipboard

And how each one is used based on the kind of bag you’re creating.

3. Why Interfacing Matters
This part made everything make sense!

For example:
School bags need padding
Travel bags need strength
Laptop bags need protection
Structured handbags need stability
The right interfacing makes your bag last longer, stay firm, and protect whatever is inside.

This week, I went to the market myself to source materials.
Leather, interfacing, accessories — everything.
It was a lot 😅
But I’m proud because every day I understand this craft better.
