The Power of Reading in Shaping Young Minds

Today, we celebrate World Book Day, a global event dedicated to the joy of reading and the transformative power of books. This day reminds us of the immense value books bring to our lives, especially for students on their journey of learning, growth, and self-discovery.

Books are more than just words on paper; they are gateways to new worlds, ideas, and perspectives. For students, reading is a fundamental skill that goes beyond academic success. It fosters creativity, improves concentration, and enhances critical thinking. Reading also strengthens language skills, expands vocabulary, and builds confidence in communication—an essential tool for success in school and beyond.

Research shows that students who read regularly perform better academically. However, the benefits of reading extend far beyond the classroom. Books inspire curiosity, encourage imagination, and provide a safe space to explore new ideas, challenge assumptions, and dream big.

In commemoration of World Book Day, we hosted a Book Fair on Thursday, March 6th, 2025. This year, we were honoured to welcome representatives from the Omafuru Foundation, who engaged our learners on the importance of cultivating good reading habits. They brought a variety of books, offered at a 50% discount, and set up a book stand for parents to purchase books for their children or make donations to the school.

We encourage every student to embrace the culture of reading. Whether it's a novel, a biography, a poem, or an article, every book has something valuable to offer. Let's use this day as a starting point to reignite our passion for reading.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Omafuru Foundation for their support and to our parents for their continuous encouragement and participation. Your contributions help us foster a culture of reading and learning among our students.
