PRESS STATEMENT

*ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! WE VEHEMENTLY CONDEMN THE EXORBITANT AND INSENSITIVE HIKE IN OFF-CAMPUS ACCOMMODATION PRICES AROUND THE UNIVERSITY OF ILESA (UNILESA)*

Date: 10th of November, 2025

The leadership of NANS JCC Osun Axis stands in unbreakable solidarity with the suffering students of the University of Ilesa (UNILESA) who are currently being crushed under the wicked weight of astronomical accommodation price hikes by greedy landlords, agents and property owners in Ijesaland around the university.
We have seen the cries: rooms now going for ₦350,000, ₦550,000, and even higher! Agent fees that swallow an entire semester’s savings! Agreements torn up overnight! This is not business, this is daylight robbery! This is economic terrorism against Nigerian students who are already battling skyrocketing school fees, hunger and a system that treats education like a luxury for the rich!
To every landlord and agent inflating prices because “students don’t have option” YOU ARE ENEMIES OF EDUCATION! YOU ARE SABOTEURS OF IJESALAND’S FUTURE AND OSUN STATE AT LARGE! You hide behind “demand and supply” while pushing our students into hostels of 10 in a room, into slums, into the streets, or forcing them to drop out entirely. This madness must stop NOW!

We demand:
1. IMMEDIATE REVERSAL of all unjustifiable hikes for the 2025/2026 session.
2. PRICE CONTROL MECHANISM by the Ijesa North Traditional Council, UNILESA management, and Osun State Government to cap rents at affordable rates.
3. MASSIVE ON-CAMPUS HOSTEL CONSTRUCTION (UNILESA) must stop pushing students into the hands of predators!
4. NO MORE ILLEGAL AGREEMENT BREACHES.

To every UNILESA students: YOU ARE NOT ALONE! The Aluta spirit that toppled apartheid, that fought military dictatorship, that buried fee hikes across this country lives in us! NANS JCC Osun Axis is mobilizing. We are consulting. We are ready to shut down Ilesa if these vampires do not back down. Your pain is our pain. Your fight is our fight.

*ROBBERY ATTACK ON OSPOLY STUDENTS: AN UNACCEPTABLE BREACH OF SAFETY, SECURITY AGENCIES AND GOVERNMENT MUST ACT NOW!!!*

With a heavy heart and deep concern, the leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students Joint Campus Council Osun Axis, condemns in the strongest terms the horrific robbery incident that took place in the early hours of Monday, June 2, 2025, at Osun State Polytechnic, Iree (OSPOLY).

According to multiple eyewitness accounts from traumatized student victims, a group of armed robbers, wielding guns, axes, and cutlasses, forcefully broke into student residences under the cover of night. The assailants made away with phones, laptops, and other valuable belongings, leaving the students shaken, fearful, and psychologically scarred.

This is not just a robbery. It is a direct assault on the right of students to learn in a safe and secure environment. The continued silence and failure of the relevant security agencies, local authorities, and school management to proactively protect the lives and properties of students is grossly unacceptable.

We cannot continue to pretend that all is well. The growing insecurity on and around campus is now a threat to the future of education in Osun State. Students cannot learn in fear. Parents cannot be at peace while their children are being attacked at midnight. We say ENOUGH is ENOUGH

On behalf of the entire student community in Osun State, we hereby :-
1. Call on the Nigeria Police Force and other security operatives to immediately deploy personnel to OSPOLY and surrounding areas to restore order and confidence in student safety for proper investigation.
2. Urge the Osun State Government and Boripe Local Government Authority to rise up to their constitutional responsibilities of protecting lives and properties of residents and students in the area.
3. Demand urgent intervention by the school management to improve campus security and provide immediate support and counseling for affected students.

Let it be known that if no decisive and visible action is taken within the shortest possible time, NANS JCC Osun Axis will have no choice but to mobilize thousands of students to the streets of Iree and the Osun State Government Secretariat in Osogbo for a peaceful but relentless protest to demand justice and security for our fellow students.

The lives of students must never be gambled with. Our safety is not negotiable.

_Solidarity Statement from the Leadership of NANS JCC Osun Axis on behalf of all the students in Osun State._

The leadership of NANS JCC Osun Axis strongly condemns the audacious attack on the NANS President, Comrade Atiku Isah, by some elements who are doing the bidding of Seyi Tinubu, the President's son. We, as students, are profoundly saddened by what Seyi Tinubu wants to metamorphose this country into by using every means possible to eliminate all discerning voices against his father's draconian policies. We are greatly concerned about the attempt to assassinate a fellow Comrade who courageously spoke against the reprehensible policies of President Tinubu.

On the 15th of last month, Comrade Isah Atiku was kidnapped by Ladoja, a factional NANS President who is ostensibly loyal to Seyi Tinubu and APC. They brutally beat him and issued ominous threats to kill him if he doesn't make a statement renouncing his position as NANS President. This is an egregious affront to the rule of law in a country that purportedly values democracy. If an attempt can be made to kill a fellow human simply for being part of a students' movement, then the rest of us aren't safe anymore. Hence, we need to speak out against these anachronistic characters who want to turn our country into a jungle governed by brute force.

We urge all Nigerians to stand against this brazen daylight thuggery against someone who is merely protecting the interests of students who gave him the mandate. We also warn Ladoja not to rule with an iron fist over people who don't want him to rule them. Leadership, is not by force, and one doesn't need killing or harassing fellow students before one's government can be widely recognized. We understand that Ladoja is an APC agent, and it's Seyi Tinubu who plotted him to cripple the students' movement. Since they are unable to achieve this, they want to govern by all means possible.

However, Ladoja should know that if the gods of earth don't see him, the one in heaven is watching him clearly. Seyi Tinubu needs to understand that being the President's son doesn't equate to being omnipotent. He should tread softly and never allow power to intoxicate him. We have had many Presidents, and regardless of the years his father might use, he will leave power one day. It's essential for him to learn from history and respect the rights of others.

We stand in solidarity with Comrade Atiku Isah, NANS President, at this time and urge all Nigerians to demand Justice for him, we equally urge the media, civil societies, international organizations, and all persons to support Atiku Isah. If they succeed in killing him, no one will be safe and if Justice is not done, what these evil elements will do in the future will worst. By this, we are in solidarity stand with Isah Atiku against Seyi Tinubu and his cohorts, who seem to behave like they are above the law. On behalf of all the students in Osun, we wish Comrade Isah well and assure students that we shall continue to protect their interests.

Let this serve as a warning to all those who think they can use brute force to silence the voices of reason and justice. We will not be intimidated, and we will continue to speak out against any form of oppression.
