Happy World Breastfeeding Week!
Feeding your baby should be a bonding moment but getting the right latch can feel overwhelming at first.
Whether you are a new mom or need a little refresher, proper positioning and latching make all the difference for both your comfort and baby's milk intake.
Watch this video for a step-by-step guide on how to get it right! Here are the key points to remember:
Get Comfortable First: Sit up straight with good back support. Bring your baby to your breast, not your breast down to your baby.
Tummy-to-Tummy: Make sure your baby’s tummy is pressed flat against yours. Their ear, shoulder, and hip should line up in a straight line.
The "Nose-to-Nipple" Trick: Start by tickling your baby’s upper lip with your ni**le. Wait until they open their mouth wide like a big yawn!
Aim for a Deep Latch: Quickly bring your baby onto your breast. They should take in a large portion of the lower part of the ar**la (the dark area around the ni**le) not just the ni**le itself.
Check for Comfort: It should feel like a deep tug, not a sharp pinch or pain. If it hurts, gently break the suction with your clean finger and try again.
You are doing an amazing job, mamas. Every feeding journey is unique and it is okay to ask for help from a lactation consultant if you need it.
Drop a ❤️ if this helped you, and share this with a mom who might need to see it today!
