HEALING IS YOURS (9)

https://youtu.be/tCwk5MBnv_o?si=s4HftBvhUdiE8ofl

In Luke 9, he gave authority to disciples
When he rose from the dead, he was fulfilling the pophecy in Psalm 110:1.

Psalm 110:1, By the resurrection, he fulfilled the prophecy of the prophets as touching the authority he would have / receive by virtue of his resurrection.

1st Peter 1:10 Of which salvation the prophets have enquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace [that should come] unto you: Vs 11 Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow.

Vs 12 Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they did minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into.

Mark 16:17-20 are Signs of the power that Jesus gave the church.

Acts 3:5 And he gave heed unto them, expecting to receive something of them. Vs 6 Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have, give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk…

Vs 16 And his name through faith in his name hath made this man strong, whom ye see and know: yea, the faith which is by him hath given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all.

Acts 5:15 In somuch that they brought forth the sick into the streets, and laid [them] on beds and couches, that at the least the shadow of Peter passing by might overshadow some of them.

Vs 16 There came also a multitude [out] of the cities round about unto Jerusalem, bringing sick folks, and them which were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed every one.

Notice that no one was required to be saved before healing was ministered to them.

Healing is free. It is God's way of showing his mercy to the sinner. It is a sign, but is not the gospel.

Acts 6 talks about Stephen which did great signs and wonders.
Acts 8:7 They were not healed because they were saved. They were healed and then saved.

All we have read so far are miracles. In all, power was demonstrated. Demonstration based on fact that Jesus rose from the dead and gave authority over sicknesses and disease, which we have by identification.

So, the healing ministry of Jesus is the healing ministry of the church. By virtue of that, there is power made available to cure sicknesses and diseases.

In Paul’s epistles, physical healing is classified with one word; 1 Corinthians 12:28. calls it gifts of healing- the miraculous endowment to heal without condition. It deals with the power of God and shows the character of God

1 Corinthians 12:9,11- Healing is given as gift of the spirit. The gifts in the spirit are a work of redemption. Healing is given to us today by the gift of healing; James 5:14

In Galatians 3, he talks about miracles, but it is a general word.
But then, we have the gift of the working of miracles.
Just like Jesus, the church has been endowed with healing power.

Two out of five times when Jesus healed the sick in scriptures, he cast out demons. The gift of healings will drive out sickness and diseases and bring about a healing and a cure. A believer today can take authority over sickness and diseases. He can minister the healing power. There can be diverse methods where people can receive.

What Jesus gave us is the spirit. That unconditional mercy of God that comes in the demonstration of his power is called gifts of healing. Healing is a free gift of God.

Confession:
The healing ministry of Jesus is my healing ministry by identification. By virtue of this, there is power available to me to cure sicknesses and diseases. I take authority over sickness and diseases.

Practical:
Put to practice your healing ability by going out to lay your hands on the sick.

The theme of Isaiah 53 was transgressions, sins and iniquity.

A major problem is the language issue.

Isaiah 53:4Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. Vs 5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. Vs 6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.

'By his stripes, we are healed… '

ļ‚· Grief’s
ļ‚· Sorrows

They were implying that Jesus actually bore the sicknesses.

The question is: how many of all the sicknesses did he bear? The reason is that they couldn't translate it well. The word sorrow is how the Greek translated, it is where we have the word l***r.

Matthew 8:17That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses.

Matthew didn't hear Jesus say it. He wrote this account after Jesus had risen from the dead.

In Jesus' healing ministry, he wasn't bearing people's sickness on his body. This prophecy was about his sufferings. It couldn't have been referring to his healing ministry.

So, Jesus' healing ministry was to single him out that he will bear the sorrow and grief. His healing ministry is a sign that he is the Christ - that is what Matthew was saying.

Peter spoke about him.

Acts 2:22 Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know:

He says God approved him. Jesus was singled out by God anointing him - Luke 4:18,19.

He didn't proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord until his death. The anointing pointed to the fact that he was the one to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.

Peter explains Isaiah 53 well, he said he bore our sins. No apostle ever said Jesus died for physical sickness. However, based on the redemptive work, healing is available to me..

Has the work of redemption brought healing to our bodies? Yes.

Confession: Jesus’ healing ministry singled him out, a sign that he was the Christ. The work of redemption has brought healing to my body.

HEALING IS YOURS (5)

Did Jesus go to the cross to bear our sicknesses or poverty?

John 19:30 When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.

ā€˜Finished’ is where you have the word accomplished or where an obligation has been met. There should be a preceded commitment made or debt owed. He is not saying sickness / poverty is finished. What is the ā€˜it’ that was finished? Jesus did not pay for our sins on the cross neither did he do everything on the cross.

Luke 24:25Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken: Vs 26 Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory? Vs 27 And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.

'All things'.

When he said, ā€œIt is finished,ā€ one of the things (events, prophecies) that were written was accomplished.

Acts 13:29And when they had fulfilled all that was written of him, they took him down from the tree, and laid him in a sepulchre.

The events that led to his death was what was fulfilled in the text above.

1st Peter 2:24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.

There is an assumption that Jesus bore our sins on the physical body.

If you read all of Paul's letters, he didn't make a distinction in the constitution of Jesus' body when it comes to the offering for sin.

The word 'body' does not always mean physical body. In Romans 6:6, '…Body of sin' is not physical body. Because when he talks about physical body later, he said mortal body.

In Colossians 2:9, 'Bodily' is not physical there. Referring to everything that involves the person.

1st Peter 2:24refers to the fact that Jesus bore our sins in his full capacity. 'Self' is like a tautological usage.

Hebrews 10:10 clarifies that the 'Offering of the body of Jesus Christ' doesn't mean Jesus' physical body. So, we will always interpret in the context used.

If we take Isaiah 53:4 and translate it into the originals, it is going to sound as Matthew 8:17 - 'himself'.

So the word 'body' is the word 'self'. What Peter was saying is that he did it himself.

Isaiah 53:4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.

Does this verse mean that Jesus took our sickness and disease?

Let's see its usage in the four gospels; John 1:29, Matthew 26:28, Luke 24:47, John 20:22- He has paid for sins.

When the apostles preached the gospel: Acts 2:38, Acts 5:31, Acts 10:43- It was consistently preached that Jesus' sacrifice is for sins.

References: Romans 4:25, Romans 5:12, Ephesians 1:7, Galatians 1:4, Colossians 1:14- his sacrifice; forgiveness of sins.

Hebrews 1:3, Hebrews 5:1, 3, Hebrews .
8:11-12

The issue of taking away sin is that God now relates with us in fellowship. The sacrifice is so that God will have a perfect relationship with imperfect men.

1st Peter 2:24, 1st Peter 3:18- He suffered once for sins.

In the interpretation of Isaiah 53, the epistles pen down sin(s) as the focal point of Jesus' sacrifice.

Confession: God relates with me in fellowship. So, I enjoy all the benefits that comes with this perfect relationship.

Jesus did not just heal the sick, he also gave power to The 12 and The 70 to also heal the sick.

At least a third of Jesus' ministry was reserved for healing the sick. So, it was so vital. Those who were healed were not saved / born again.

How exactly were the sick getting healed?

Acts 10:38 How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.

Peter puts it in a simple way. He explains the how, ā€˜How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost. And with power, he went about…’

The substance of the healing ministry of Jesus is power.

Luke 9:1 Then he called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases;

Luke 10:19

The authority is because there is power. There is power, the ability that makes it happen.

Instances where people got healed;

Mark 5:25 - 34- the woman with the issue of bloodLuke 5:13- Jesus cleansed a L***r.

His healing ministry is explained. So, there was power. That power was tangible. It healed the sick. Something was correcting those things. Jesus healed multitudes. This will mean any kind of person.

Luke 5:17… and the power of the Lord was present to heal them’

The power of the Lord was there to heal. He also healed non-Jews in Matthew 8. He healed the Syrophoenician woman’s daughter in Matthew 15.

He was anointed to heal. The reason why people got healed is because they believed they could be healed. What they heard about Jesus was not a message of what happened from the cross to the throne.

Those that didn't get healed in his meetings were the Pharisees - they did not believe in that (they called him Beelzebub).

God doesn't use sickness. Neither does he use the devil to be his minister. Jesus came to heal.

Hear Peter's testimony.

Acts 2:22 Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know:

Primarily healing power. He kept talking about Jesus - Acts 3:13, Acts 5:31- 32.

There was enough testimony to say he healed. There was no single account that he made anyone sick. There was no pattern in how he healed the sick. He used a lot of things to reach people.

If we are looking for evidence of healing, Jesus' ministry is valid evidence.

Confession: Jesus’ ministry is valid evidence of healing for me. God does not make anyone (me) sick. I believe, therefore I enjoy the healing power of Jesus anytime and everytime.

Psalm 103:2 Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits:
Vs 3 Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases;

Sickness is not spiritual. Sickness only affects the physical body. So, sickness is physical.

Everything that God created from the earth was called good. Man's body was from the dust of the earth.

Genesis 2:16 And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:

Vs 17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.
We are to note that He didn't say 'you cannot' which shows free will.

Romans 5:12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:

The word 'enter' means it came into the activities. There was no sin until Adam. Sin is not God's creation.
There was a transgression which is the same word for sin;
1st Timothy 2:14. Obviously those consequences showed up in man's physical body.

Sickness is a result of that disobedience and every other anomaly. God did not make a sick body. Right from Genesis, what happened was a procreation. What God did was perfect.

John 1:18 No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.

Whatever Jesus does is what the father is doing. Jesus gives us a clear picture. Jesus declares the father to us.

Luke 4:18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,

In Luke 4:18, the word, 'brokenhearted' is a word used for the feeble. Feeble means sick. So, Jesus meant those who are very sick. Jesus is anointed to do what the Father does.

The four gospels are eyewitness accounts of Jesus.

He fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah 61:1-3.
Isaiah 61:1 The Spirit of the Lord GOD [is] upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to [them that are] bound;

Vs 2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn;

Vs 3 To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.

Observe that Jesus in fulfilling that prophecy did not mention the vengeance of the law. The vengeance of the law is supposed to be scarcely mentioned in the epistles.

In Luke 4:35, just after he said that. The very first thing he did was to meet someone possessed of demons.

Luke 4:38 And he arose out of the synagogue, and entered into Simon's house. And Simon's wife's mother was taken with a great fever; and they besought him for her.

Vs 39 And he stood over her, and rebuked the fever; and it left her: and immediately she arose and ministered unto them.

In those days, fever was like a terminal disease. 'He rebuked the fever'. The word 'rebuke' is used to correct something, to confront an oppressor.
It seemed as though Jesus was talking to personalities when he confronted sicknesses. Same way he would have rebuked demons, he rebuked the sickness.

Acts 10:38 How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.

The word 'oppressed' is used for in relation to Tyrants who forcefully dominate people. This summarizes Jesus' healing ministry. Jesus addressed sickness like he was confronting a Tyrant.

It will therefore be wrong to address God as someone who puts sickness on people. God doesn't put sickness on people.

In Luke 13:11 - 16, the woman was bent over. She had gotten used to been sick. The word 'infirmity' is used which is a consistent word for being deaf, dumb and blind. It was called a disease because it wasn't meant to be like that. Jesus rebuking it was to correct it.

Jesus demonstrates the willingness of God to heal sickness. There was so much that Jesus did than were recorded. We shouldn't doubt that same power today even after he died and rose from the dead.

CONFESSION:
God does not make me sick to heal me. Today, I do not doubt the healing power that Jesus demonstrates to heal the sick.

HEALING IS YOURS (2)

Healing is a free gift of God. It is God’s act of Kindness. It is His nature to do good. Healing is good. God is Good. God is a Healing God.

The Old Testament teaches the same.
Exodus 15:26 And said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the LORD that healeth thee.

I am the Lord that healeth thee.
Exodus 23:25 And ye shall serve the LORD your God, and he shall bless thy bread, and thy water; and I will take sickness away from the midst of thee.

Part of His covenant with Israel is (was) to be their covenant healer. He is (was) committed to heal their sicknesses and diseases.

Psalm 107:20 He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.

His Word is a healing Word. It is sent to heal and deliver.

Psalm 103:1 Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name. Vs2 Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: Vs 3 Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases; Vs 4 Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies;

With His forgiveness comes His healing. Healing is a benefit of His forgiveness. It is a blessing. His Goodness in action.

Proverbs 4:20 My son, attend to my words; consent and submit to my sayings. Vs 21 Let them not depart from your sight; keep them in the center of your heart Vs 22 For they are life to those who find them, healing and health to all their flesh.

His Word is medicine. It brings health. I find healing and wellness in God’s Word. His word is Good news, The Gospel. It brings His goodness, His mercy. Healing is available in His Word.

CONFESSION:
Healing is a free gift of God to me, it is God’s act of kindness. It is a benefit of His forgiveness, His word is medicine to me.
