DIRECTOR"S WELCOMING SPEECH AT STUDENTS ORIENTATION"
CRESTHIVE STUDENTS: RISE TO EXCELLENCE
Dear Students of CrestHive International School,
Welcome to a new academic session.
Today, I want to challenge every one of you to make this academic year different β a year of excellence, discipline, character, discovery and outstanding achievement.
At CrestHive International School, we are not here simply to prepare you to pass examinations. We are here to prepare you for life, leadership and purpose.
Our Vision is:
Β«βTo build a world-class citadel of learning where great leaders are made.βΒ»
And our Mission is:
Β«βTo bring out the best from every child by helping them identify their talents, skills and purpose.βΒ»
These are not just beautiful words written on our walls. They are a responsibility.
Every teacher has a responsibility to bring out the best in you.
Every parent has a responsibility to support you.
And, most importantly, you have a responsibility to discover yourself, work hard and become the person you were created to be.
BE AN "A" STUDENT
At CrestHive, I want you to change your mindset.
Do not come to school thinking:
βI just want to pass.β
Instead, say:
βI want to excel.β
Say:
βI want an A.β
An A does not come by luck. It comes through discipline, consistency, preparation, concentration and hard work.
Study every day.
Revise what you have been taught.
Complete your assignments.
Ask questions when you do not understand.
Read beyond your classroom notes.
Listen to your teachers.
And never be satisfied with doing the bare minimum.
If you can do better, do better.
Your greatest competition is not necessarily the person sitting beside you. Your greatest competition is the person you can become.
TO OUR JSS 3 AND SS 3 STUDENTS β THIS IS YOUR TIME
I want to specifically speak to our JSS 3 and SS 3 students β our certificate classes.
You are at a very important stage of your education.
This is not the time for carelessness.
This is not the time for unnecessary distractions.
This is not the time to postpone your studies until examinations are close.
Your time is now.
For our JSS 3 students preparing for your BECE, I want every one of you to work towards excellent results across all your subjects.
For our SS 3 students preparing for WAEC and NECO, our expectation is clear:
We want you to aim for A's in all your subjects.
Do not set your target at simply obtaining a certificate.
Set your target at distinction.
And for those of you preparing for the UTME, I challenge you to aim for a minimum score of 300.
Do not say, β300 is impossible.β
Ask yourself instead:
βWhat must I do every day to give myself the best opportunity of achieving 300?β
That means serious preparation.
It means mastering your subjects.
It means practising past questions.
It means identifying your weak areas and deliberately improving them.
It means reducing distractions.
It means listening to your teachers and asking for help.
Your target must be clear: WAEC/NECO β A's; UTME β 300 and above.
And remember, the school cannot achieve this target for you alone.
Your teachers will teach.
Your parents will support.
The school will provide the environment.
But you must do the work.
YOUR CHARACTER MATTERS
However, let me make something very clear:
Academic excellence without good character is incomplete.
At CrestHive, we don't just want brilliant students. We want brilliant students who can be trusted.
Be honest.
Do not cheat.
Do not steal.
Do not bully.
Do not intimidate others.
Do not engage in cultism, drugs or other destructive behaviours.
Respect your teachers.
Respect your parents.
Respect your classmates.
Respect yourself.
Let your word mean something.
Let people trust you even when nobody is watching.
Your certificate may open a door, but your character will determine what happens after the door opens.
DISCOVER YOUR TALENT, SKILLS AND PURPOSE
Our mission says we want to bring out the best from every child by helping you identify your talents, skills and purpose.
That means I do not want you to believe that intelligence is only about Mathematics, English, Physics, Chemistry, Government or Biology.
You may have a talent for technology.
You may be a future entrepreneur.
You may be a great writer.
You may have leadership ability.
You may be an artist, designer, scientist, communicator, athlete or innovator.
You may have a gift you have not yet discovered.
Discover it. Develop it. Discipline it. Use it positively.
Do not compare yourself unnecessarily with another student.
Someone else's strength does not make you weak.
Your responsibility is to discover your own potential and develop it.
CHOOSE YOUR FRIENDS WISELY
Your friends can either encourage your greatness or distract you from it.
Choose friends who want to succeed.
Friends who remind you to study.
Friends who encourage good behaviour.
Friends who challenge you to become better.
Do not follow people simply because they are popular.
Never sacrifice your future just to fit in.
You have a future worth protecting.
DO NOT FEAR FAILURE
You may sometimes fail a test.
You may make mistakes.
You may receive a result that disappoints you.
Do not give up.
Learn from it.
Ask for help.
Try again.
Improve.
Failure is not the opposite of success; refusing to learn from failure is what can keep you from progressing.
WE ARE BUILDING LEADERS
Remember our vision:
βTo build a world-class citadel of learning where great leaders are made.β
Great leaders are not made overnight.
They are built through discipline, knowledge, integrity, courage, compassion, responsibility and service.
Leadership is not simply becoming the person at the front.
Leadership is doing the right thing even when nobody is watching.
Leadership is helping others.
Leadership is accepting responsibility.
Leadership is having the courage to say NO when everyone else is doing the wrong thing.
That is the kind of leader CrestHive wants to produce.
OUR CRESTHIVE CHALLENGE
So, students, as we begin this academic year, I want you to make a commitment to yourselves.
I will attend my classes.
I will listen and participate.
I will study consistently.
I will ask for help when I need it.
I will respect my teachers and classmates.
I will choose good friends.
I will stay away from destructive behaviours.
I will discover my talents and develop my skills.
I will protect my future.
I will pursue excellence.
I will aim for A's.
And for our JSS 3 and SS 3 students:
I will give my very best to achieve excellent results in every subject.
I will prepare seriously for my certificate examinations.
And if I am sitting for UTME, I will work towards a minimum score of 300.
FINALLY, REMEMBER WHO YOU ARE
CrestHive is not just a school you attend.
CrestHive is a place where your future is being shaped.
You are not here merely to collect a certificate.
You are here to learn, discover, develop, serve and lead.
You are here because there is something valuable inside you that needs to be brought out.
Our mission is to bring out the best in you.
Your responsibility is to give your best.
And together, we will pursue our vision of building:
A world-class citadel of learning where great leaders are made.
So, students of CrestHive:
Dream big.
Study hard.
Live right.
Stay disciplined.
Discover your purpose.
Develop your talents.
Respect others.
Believe in yourself.
And above all:
DO NOT SETTLE FOR AVERAGE WHEN YOU HAVE THE CAPACITY FOR EXCELLENCE.
Rise to the challenge.
Rise to excellence.
