In today's world, technology has become a household name. Almost everything people do can now be done easily with technology, ranging from communication to designing and many other activities. One digital tool whose importance cannot be overemphasized is social media. Its existence has been beneficial in many ways, although it has also had some negative effects.
Yesterday, our students at Mother Bernadette Anyogu Secondary School took time to debate the topic: "Social media has done more harm than good."
It was a wonderful and engaging debate. Below are some highlights of the event.

In our commitment to raising confident, intelligent, and expressive students, we recently introduced our weekly Intra-School Academic and Intellectual Activities, held every Wednesday. These activities include Quiz Competitions, Debates, and Impromptu Speeches designed to engage every student academically and socially.
Last week, we successfully kicked off the programme for the Junior Category, while today featured the Senior Category. To make the sessions more exciting and interactive, questions were projected using multimedia presentation, creating a modern and stimulating learning environment for our students.
One of the most remarkable aspects of the programme is that every class is fairly represented. Rather than selecting only the “brightest” students, we intentionally gave opportunities to students who are often overlooked. The result has been truly inspiring.
Today’s competition was highly impressive, with one group scoring 33 points out of 46, while another scored 35 points out of 46 possible points — proving that when students are encouraged and given opportunities, they can exceed expectations.
Interestingly, many more students are now eager to participate. We have observed that selected students now dedicate extra time to personal study and preparation. The programme is gradually building confidence, teamwork, communication skills, and healthy academic competition among our learners.
At the end of today’s activity, we announced that in two weeks’ time, the Junior Students will engage in a Debate Competition on the topic:
“Social Media Has Done More Harm Than Good.”
To further motivate excellence, the Best Speaker will receive a special prize.
At Mother Bernadette Anyogu Memorial Comprehensive Secondary School, Onitsha, we believe education is not only about passing examinations but also about helping students discover their voice, build confidence, think critically, and trust their own judgment.
We are proud of the transformation already taking place and remain committed to raising students who are academically sound, socially confident, and future-ready.
