"BEING A TEACHER IS A CALLING"
(WHEN FLOGGING ISN'T JUST ENOUGH)
After an interview which I thought I wasn't worthy of being picked, I was given the job after all. My new job as a teacher in one of the best private schools in town was hectic, but I had to adjust to it because I signed up for it.
After the assembly, I was introduced by the school Principal to S.S.2 class as their new Literature teacher. They were all happy to see me, except for one student who didn't smile nor clap as others did. She gave me a look I couldn't comprehend and went back to fiddling with her pen.
After the Principal left the class, I began my first lecture with them. I asked of their names and got to know that the name of the girl who refused to welcome me was Priscilla.
I also noticed that no matter how I tried to be humorous, Priscilla refused to laugh or be involved in the class activities. She sat alone and obviously had no friend.
What got me really angry with her was that she didn't do my assignments and when I gave a class work, she either had the least or failed everything. I concluded she wasn't intelligent.
Priscilla was fond of sleeping in the class. She didn't talk nor mingle with anyone. During break time, while others rushed out to buy snacks or play, she'd be inside the class, sleeping on her desk.
I developed hatred for her because I disdained dull students. I started flogging her each time she failed the class works I gave them or refused doing her homeworks. But, it didn't change anything. She was indifferent.
Another thing I noticed about her was her lateness to go home after school. Many times, I had met her asleep in an empty class room, after school. With my cane, I had to wake her up and order her to leave the school premises.
One afternoon, after school was over, the Principal had a meeting with the teachers. We finished the meeting in the evening. I didn't know why, but I decided to check the S.S.2 classroom before leaving.
I was shocked to see Priscilla resting her head on her desk. I quickly checked my time, it was 4:32pm and school was over since 2:00pm. I marched into the class angrily and was about to whip her with my cane, but then, another idea came to my mind and I decided for the first time to ask her why she was doing all what she did.
I tapped her on her shoulder and she carried her head up quickly. I realized that she was seriously sobbing. Her eyes were red with tears and her body temperature was high.
She wanted to lower her face down again, but I begged her not to. I brought out my hand towel and began to mop her face. She looked pale and lonely.
I sat beside her and made her rest her head on my shoulder. I assured her that I'd be her friend and would help her if she opened up to me.
She sobbed the more, causing tears to gather in my eyes as well. After much pleas, she began to talk.
"I have been in this school for five years now. I used to be very intelligent in my J.S.S.1 to J.S.S.3 and I never took anything less than first position before. But when I entered S.S.1, things changed. I started deteriorating academically, yet, no teacher cared to know what was wrong with me or why the sudden change.
All they do is flog me when I don't do my assignments, punish me when I fail my classworks and call me names when I sleep in class, forgetting that there were times I used to be their favorite student. There were times I never slept for once in the class. There were times my assignments and classworks were the best and there were times I was always nominated to represent the entire school in outstanding competitions and always returned as the winner.
But now, none of them care to know why I dropped drastically. They were so fast to choose another representative since I am no longer intelligent. They've never cared to ask me why," Priscilla said, still crying.
"I'm so sorry Priscilla. I should have asked you, but I concluded that you're one of the dull students and started flogging you without caring to know what you've been passing through. Please forgive me," I said.
She looked at me for a while, then put her face down and said
"I should have been in the hospital this evening to abort my father's third child, but I can't go, because I feel I won't survive this one. My mother died while I was writing my J.S.S.3 examinations. After her burial, my father started sleeping with me. He threatened to kill me if I opened up to anyone.
I got pregnant the very first time he slept with me and he made me abort it. This automatically affected my academics because I lose interest in reading. I went through pains but pretended to be fine.
When I entered S.S.1, he got me pregnant again. He made me abort the pregnancy and I almost died in the process. My father did not care, he kept sleeping with me. I became very reserved and lose interest in everything because I was dying within me. I needed to talk to someone, but I was too scared. I became scared of going back home, after school because of my father, but no teacher cared to understand, they always shout at me to leave the school premises.
I missed my period last week and I told him about it. He got me a test strip which showed that I was pregnant again. He told me that after school today, he'd be taking me to the usual place for abortion, that is why I am here. I am only telling you because you promised to be my friend and help me, so, I need your help. I don't want to die," She concluded, still sobbing.
I was short of words. I then realized that it was God who made me get this job, even though I didn't merit it, so that I could help the girl and expose her father.
I took her to my apartment, gave her food and drugs to take so that her temperature could return to normality. Then, without wasting time, I took her to a police station and she told the DPO everything she told me.
Without delay, her father was brought to the police station. He happened to be a prominent man in the society. As expected, he denied the accusation, but after enough drilling, he admitted everything his daughter said and added that it was the devil who pushed him to do it.
Though he was arrested and given a befitting punishment, but Priscilla died in the process of giving birth to her father's child. The baby died as well. This was because, even though I took care of her the best way I could, she was emotionally drained. The thought of having her father's child made her have complications during the labour and sadly, she couldn't make it.
If there was a teacher whom she could confide in, the first time her father started sleeping with her, the situation wouldn't have been that complicated, perhaps, she would have been saved. But no one cared to know what was going on with her till it became too late.
This is to every teacher out there, your duty isn't just to teach, but to develop a good relationship between you and your students. Sometimes, flogging them isn't just the best option. Try talking to them and making them trust you so that they can open up to you. Some children are going through hell.
Observe your students and be their friend, by doing so, you can save a child from an ugly situation. Not just in school, but anywhere you find yourself, try and make friends with children. It's not everytime that cane can correct, sometimes, your good relationship with them can correct a lot of wrongs that cane cannot correct.
This is a true life story,
narrated by a teacher.

SIX YEARS IN MIND: EULOGY TO A NOBLE EDUCATOR, MY MENTOR, FATHER AND FRIEND, A GAME CHANGER,A DESTINY HELPER AND A LEADER PAR EXCELLENCE...
Late Sir Cyprain Enukora Ezeani a.k.a Ezedinobi
was born into Umuodum kindred, Nkitaku village, Agulu Town in 1941 into a poor learning and financial environment and grew up with the help of God and people to the appreciable status of a learned, wealthy, human-helper and activist before leaving the world.
I wish that all men add to their virtues "man kind help" and activism that were found in the life of Ichie Cyprain Enukora Ezeani.
I consider myself fortunate, and thus thank God for the possibility of knowing Ichie Cyprain Enukora Ezeani as our big father and my Father's master during the years he served as headteacher in several primary Schools in Anambra State.
I cannot fully express in word, chief Ezeani's positive impact in my life and that of others. His selfless works and services, taught me deep love and care for people, despite their cultural and religious affiliations.
Ichie Ezeani never failed to give a helping hand to any man or woman who came in contact with him needing help, in the area of employment, salary issues, intimidation by higher authorities etc.
As a graduate of Applied Biochemistry, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. I wasn't able to lay my hands on any good-paying job except teaching in a private/mission secondary school.
However, during Mr. Peter Obi's governorship campaign, Ichie Ezeani worked assiduously together with other well-meaning persons to get him publicised among people in which Mr. Obi later succeeded as the governor of Anambra State.
Governor Obi, however rewarded Ichie for his unrelenting efforts and favourably appointed him as a Senior Special Adviser on primary education matters based on chief Cyprain's wealth of experience in primary school service.
That way, Ichie became a great help-instrument, not only to me but also to many other graduates in Agulu town and in different places through his wealth of experience in primary education sector.
Despite the bandwagon effect of who- knows-who gets job, that was corroding the State and the nation as at then, even now; Chief Cyprain Ezeani, staked in his life and resources helping qualified candidates get jobs in which they can add value to the economy and to people's lives.
In Primary School Sector,
Ichie worked relentlessly and made the lives of primary School teachers better by leading the crusade that resulted in making certificates of primary school teachers and workers equal in value with their counterparts in the secondary.
In the past, primary school teachers were't promoted to level 16; but today it is a different ballgame. Teachers in primary school, enjoy the same retirement benefits like their other counterparts in the State civil service.
This is one of the wonderful achievements of Sir Ichie Cyprain E. Ezeani during his life time.
Sir, Ichie Cyprain Enukora Ezeani, my heart will always glow for joy as I call to mind your great services to humanity and yet not only me but also others who appreciate good works for humanity. May your life-changing "LEGACIES" live on through the worlds and I say, it's a pleasure knowing you in my life time!!!
PLEASE WHAT IS YOUR THOUGHT ON THIS
Dear Parents,
A child goes to school by 7 am and closes by 5 pm for five days out of the seven days in a week.
During weekends, that child comes home with many assignments in all the subjects he or she is offered in school and as such, there won't be time to rest and play at the weekends.
The child does that for almost four months hoping to enjoy the holidays only for the school (in collaboration with the parents) to come up with unnecessary activities in the name of holiday lessons.
What exactly do you want to teach that child again during this period? Is it what he or she learnt in the just concluded session or what they will learn next term?
Dear Nigerian parents, the summer holiday is a period you allow a child to experience other things in life apart from formal education.
Allow them to travel for the vacation and if you do not have money for that, take them to places where they will learn new skills.
Let them go and learn drawing, computer coding, how to play football, martial art, business, catering, tie and dye, foreign languages, Barbing, sewing Etc.
Every time Book! book!! book!!!😟😨😩😧
This is why most of our youths are unemployed. They only had a FORMAL education; no VOCATIONAL education. They cannot do any other thing apart from white-collar jobs. At that young age, they learn without being ashamed of what people will say, they will be using these new skills to feed themselves until they get jobs in the areas they studied in college or university.
We learn how to discover a whole lot of things in school but not how to discover ourselves or our children, help your child to discover who he/she is: and train the child in that direction.
SCHOOL IS NOT ENOUGH"!!!
Dear beloved parents, please avail these little ones of the opportunities to explore life!!! Yes...... Let them into the world of self-discovery. Avail your children this opportunity of discovering who they really are
True happiness and contentment comes from doing what you have passion for... Work with us via WhatsApp on 08034909993, As we help you discover your child's innateness.

DECLINED LOVE; WHAT IT IS AND WHAT CAUSES IT.
A Human Development Work:
The English Dictionary has different definitions for the word, "Decline", but here are the words that are similar in meaning which I find suitable for our topic. They include: refuse, reject and avoid...
As we may all know, "Love", means kind-feeling, good-will and affection, among other definitions.
Declined-love is a practice in which a person has refused the urge to accept or give love to someone who needs it. This defaming practice is usually caused by wrong information, belief, ill-temper or judgement against the person who needs love.
It feels bad to say that nearly every adult sometimes in their lives, has rejected love gestures or declined to give love to the needy.
Since our discussion has two major areas that includes giving or rejecting love, let us narrow it down to, "Giving Love", and leave the other for any other time.
Love can be given to a single person, group of people or an institution. For example: parents, children, siblings, strangers, old and young, rich and poor, learned and unlearned persons, families, towns, governments and cooperate bodies, etc.
A few reasons why we love people is because of values we place on their lives and belongings. Also, it is because of human capabilities in reciprocating love; as well as abilities and skills in creating and managing things which in one way or the other benefit us.
Notwithstanding, many of us not only hate who loves us but also persons who are not in our good book for one reason or the other.
This unwanted and yet challenging experience leaves us with regretful memories or a sense of past-feeling. In the case of regrets, it is normal but the victims should not continue in regrets because one thing is clear, "We cannot live in the past but in the present".
Here are some proven ways in which we can win over irritations of declined or failed love and continue our lives in right direction.
They include showing penitence and regret;
then "PRACTICAL REPENTANCE" to justify our remorseful heart. This is true because, "Faith without work is dead".

*My name is Tomorrow "not my real name", I own a company, none of my staff knew me as the owner except the Manager and the Secretary. (I had told them not to disclose my identity).*
*I don't usually go for a visit.*
*One day, I visited the company and I saw my Ex wife, who had thrown me out of my own house. I asked the Manager and he said she is one of their staff.*
*I instructed the Manager to promote her to Personnel Officer, gave her a car, a bungalow, garden boy, security and other emoluments. An undeserved position though, of which he did.*
*A month later, I went there as a job seeker. As soon as she saw me with my application and CV, she rejected me outright, threw my application at my face, and immediately retrieved it from the floor and tore it to pieces and threw it into the waste bin. After regaling me with all my past, she informed me I would never get employment nor an opportunity at the company. Also, she swore on heaven and the earth that all this would happen. She boldly declared that the only way I’d get employment at the company was over her cold dead body*.
*I came the following day with another application and went on my knees to beg her, but she refused and spat into the waste bin and said even if I was the only bridge to cross to come to work, she would opt for a boat and called the security men to throw me out, so I left.*
*One day, I went to the company in my real identity and entered her office with the Manager who introduced me to her, she quickly knelt down crying and begging me, "the proposed rejected bridge.” She informed me that her entire family depended on her for survival. If her employment was terminated, she added, life would be absolutely horrendous not only for her but also her entire family. She even promised to remarry me.*
*We both stood there motionless and speechless which left the Manager befuddled.*
*Many things started racing in my head. Should I call for the police? Should I strip her of her current position to her former position? Should I cancel the unqualified benefits given to her? Should I accept such a woman back?*
*I'm still standing at her office indecisive.*
*If you were in my shoes, what would you do?*
*THERE IS TOMORROW*
*Whenever you are dealing with people, you must always remember that there is tomorrow and you might néed them tomorrow. You may end up needing help from the people who are asking for your help today, so help as much as you can.*
*Life is like a moving wheel, sometimes you are up and sometimes you are down. Sometimes we destroy the bridges that we might need to help us cross back tomorrow. Sometimes we treat people as though there is never going to be tomorrow. We sometimes act as though we will never need help from anyone. Remember there's tomorrow.*
*Joseph helped the cupbearer in prison and later the cupbearer connected Joseph with Pharaoh. Imagine how Portiphar's wife felt when she heard that Joseph was now the Governor of Egypt, after she had falsely accused him. The brother who sold Joseph away ended up being fed by him. Don't ever think of going to the extreme with your offenders, they might be rescuers tomorrow. Always remember that there is tomorrow and it will surely come.*
*The little help you give to people today, will profit you tomorrow.*
*May the good Lord touch your heart to live your life knowing that there is tomorrow.*
*In Everything You Do, Always Remember That,There Is Tomorrow.*
Have a blessed night rest.......
