On another episode of how talented Nigerians truly are! 🇳🇬
Khalifa Aminu, a young Nigerian innovator, has created AI-powered smart glasses to help visually impaired people navigate without a cane or guide.

Using AI, sensors and GPS, the glasses can detect obstacles, track location and share the user’s location with a caregiver.

He’s now adding voice AI to make the glasses even smarter.

The future is Nigerian. 🇳🇬

From Electrical Engineering to Artificial Intelligence: The Story of My Change in Academic Path

Engineering is an excellent field in its own right. However, in Nigeria, I believe it still does not receive the recognition it deserves.

Anyone who studied Engineering, even if they graduated with a Third Class, can be a highly knowledgeable person who understands what they are doing. If such a person becomes a leader, you may find someone who is intelligent, strategic, and capable of solving problems with ease.

If you want to study a field that teaches you how to identify problems and find solutions, study Engineering.

I studied Electrical Engineering at KUST Wudil. I underwent training at ITF Lagos and later started working with Dangote in Kogi State. It was during that period that I began to understand that practicing Engineering is not a small task. It requires you to remain actively engaged, often with very little rest.

At the same time, I noticed that not everyone who studied Engineering had the opportunity to make significant income through practicing Engineering.

I also had a strong interest in lecturing. At the time, my work involved programming electrical devices, and this made me start thinking that perhaps Computer Science was the field that better aligned with my interests and ambitions.

Also, every Electrical Engineering student takes courses such as:

Introduction to Computer

Computer Applications I & II

Computer Programming I & II

Computer Engineering I, II & III

Computer Systems & Software Engineering

Telecommunications Engineering I & II

Digital Systems & Microcontrollers

Advanced Computer Programming

That is at least 13 courses closely related to Computer Science. I also obtained A grades in these courses.

That is why, when you look at the transcript of an Electrical Engineering graduate, it may almost look as though the person studied Computer Science indirectly.

In addition, I took many Mathematics courses, even more than some Comput

Chinua Achebe wrote the book called "A Man of the People" in 1966. The novel ends with a military coup, and just weeks after it was published, Nigeria's first military coup actually happened in January 1966. Because of the eerie timing, Achebe was made a suspect in the eyes of the Nigerian military authorities; some believed he must have had foreknowledge of the coup plot.

Achebe wrote how his office in Lagos was invaded by officers and how he escaped. His life was in great danger.

Was Achebe actually aware of the coup? No, he wasn't. Achebe is a gifted writer who can predict the future through the events of the day. Achebe watched how things were unfolding, and as a writer, he wrote his book according to what he was seeing. But the blind bats in government took him as an accomplice after a coup happened weeks after the book was published.

If you are gifted like Achebe, you need to be careful. You must understand that a coup or revolution will never happen because a writer portrayed it. It will happen because of the corrupt and wicked actions of politicians. But the same politicians will send their security dogs after you for seeing what they were blind to see.

There is something I must inform Biafrans here. You must be careful. Most times, before the security agencies put resources into going after you, you might have unknowingly given them the evidence they will use to nail you. And then they will come for you.

How can someone send you a message telling you how he wants to join a movement, and you respond to such people? Is the movement a secret society that he needs to ask you how to join it? How can someone come in the inbox to tell you how he wants to join a security group, and you start responding to him, even when you are empty? You start talking trash and promising what you don't know. The information you have already sent is that you are aware and you are part of the recruitment process. So spending millions to track you from anywhere becomes worth it

‎
‎I THOUGHT BIOCHEMISTS JUST "MIX CHEMICALS"... UNTIL I STEPPED INTO THE BIOCHEMISTRY LAB. 😂😭
‎
‎As a Biochemistry student, you enter the laboratory with confidence.
‎
‎White coat? ✔
‎
‎Lab manual? ✔
‎
‎Calculator? ✔
‎
‎Confidence? Overflowing. 😂
‎
‎Then the laboratory technologist looks at you and says:
‎
‎"Since you're here, help us prepare these reagents."
‎
‎I smiled.
‎
‎"Simple work."
‎
‎My ancestors started laughing immediately. 😭
‎
‎First assignment:
‎
‎"Prepare 100 mL of 0.1 M solution."
‎
‎I confidently picked up the balance.
‎
‎Five minutes later...
‎
‎The balance was displaying numbers I had never seen before.
‎
‎Even the spatula was judging me. 😂
‎
‎Next they said:
‎
‎"Calibrate the micropipette."
‎
‎I held it like a pen.
‎
‎Clicked once.
‎
‎Clicked twice.
‎
‎Then someone shouted:
‎
‎"That's not how you use it!"
‎
‎At that moment, my confidence evaporated faster than ethanol. 😭💀
‎
‎Then came the spectrophotometer.
‎
‎Simple, abi?
‎
‎Until they asked:
‎
‎"Blank the instrument first."
‎
‎I stood there wondering...
‎
‎Blank what?
‎
‎My mind?
‎
‎Or the machine? 😂
‎
‎Then enzyme assays.
‎
‎Absorbance.
‎
‎Standards.
‎
‎Controls.
‎
‎Calibration curves.
‎
‎Beer-Lambert law.
‎
‎By the time they finished explaining everything...
‎
‎I was the one whose concentration had reduced. 😭
‎
‎Then they handed me a centrifuge tube.
‎
‎"Balance the rotor."
‎
‎I thought they meant motivational balance.
‎
‎Apparently, they meant equal mass on opposite sides.
‎
‎One mistake...
‎
‎And the centrifuge would dance across the laboratory. 😂
‎
‎Then someone asked:
‎
‎"Where are your calculations?"
‎
‎Molarity.
‎
‎Dilution factor.
‎
‎Serial dilution.
‎
‎Standard curve.
‎
‎Regression equation.
‎
‎At that point, I started questioning every mathematics teacher I had ever met. 😭
‎
‎Meanwhile...
‎
‎The senior biochemist was working calmly.
‎
‎No panic.
‎
‎No noise.
‎
‎Just carefully measuring, recording, repeating experiments, and checking every result.
