Bishop Okoye Spiritan Secondary School (BOSSS), a prestigious school located in Mirinwanyi, Rivers State, Nigeria, hosted an EDTC guest talks team. A guest talks programme is a powerful co-curricular programme that broadens the minds of young students on matters outside classroom work and equips them with well-informed perspectives to stand out among peers. The programme helps in the all-round training of students.

The EDTC team from Spiritan University Nneochi (SUN) arrived in the evening of Thursday, 4th June 2026 while the guest talks programme was held on Saturday, 6th June 2026 from 12:30 pm to 2pm. The guest speakers were Angel Oluebube Sylvanus who delivered an enlightening and empowering talk on "Discovering Yourself Without Losing Yourself" while Chidinma Maryann John gave a well-prepared and interesting talk on "Priorities Shape Your Perspective in Life." The EDTC media officers who covered the programme were Wisdom Ezeonye and Precious Issah.

The Founder/Director of EDTC, Rev. Fr. Dr. Chinedu Nwadike, CSSp., attended the event. The Management of BOSSS facilitated the programme, namely, Rev. Fr. Jude Ekemgba, CSSp. (Principal), Rev. Fr. JohnPaul Edoziem, CSSp. (Vice-Principal/Dean of Studies), Rev. Fr. Remigius Onyeaghala, CSSp. (Bursar), Rev. Fr. Fitzgerald Ayogu, CSSp., (Dean of Students’ Affairs/Sports Director), Rev. Fr. Jonah Asuquo (Spiritual Director), and Johnbosco Chieze (a seminarian on Discernment Programme).

The guest talks were well-researched and the students found the topics and discussions very informative, socially relevant, and entertaining. The students of BOSSS who participated in the programme actively interacted with the two presenters during the question-and-answer period and also after the programme.

"Discovering Yourself Without Losing Yourself"
Angel talked about the meaning of self-discovery and losing oneself. According to her, discovering yourself means knowing what you believe in (values), where you are going (purpose), and what you are capable of (potentials and resilience). On the contrary, losing yourself means losing touch with who you really are, which often happens without realizing it because you are so focused on fitting in or being accepted by others or pursuing irrelevant interests. Angel highlighted major reasons why people lose themselves, which included pressure from society (friends, family, social media), comparison with others, and fear of rejection (desire to belong). She made the point that we should all have core positive principles that will guide and enable us to remain focused and to move on the right path. These principles include: integrity, respect, and discipline. Furthermore, people should keep in mind that character lasts longer than popularity. In conclusion, she advised that self-discovery is very important for a successful life.

"Priorities Shape Your Perspective in Life"
While exploring the topic, Chidinma talked about the meaning of setting priorities and about life perspectives in relation to daily life. According to her, to remain focused, we need to set our priorities right because when they are not right, life becomes confusing and unnecessarily difficult. The tips she gave that can help people in setting priorities right included some soul-searching questions such as, What kind of person do I want to become? What are my goals? What am I passionate about? What truly matters to me in life? Chidinma pointed out that the body goes wherever the mind goes and that anything that enters one's mind somehow shows up in the person's actions in life. Furthermore, sometimes failure teaches us valuable lessons, challenges help us grow stronger and wiser, and with the right mindset, we will see challenges not just as obstacles but as opportunities to improve and shine. Instead of complaining constantly, we show gratitude; instead of giving up easily, we become patient and determined, and at a point, we will become too good to be ignored. She emphasized that to succeed, you must check your distraction to avoid losing your traction, and that every decision you make today affects your tomorrow. In conclusion, she advised that we should view life with hope, determination and positivity and keep in mind that the true measure of intelligence is not what you remember in the examination hall but what you can use that knowledge to transform for good in the world.

"Discovering Yourself Without Losing Yourself"
Angel offered an eye-opening insight on the meaning of self-discovery and losing oneself. She highlighted how discovering oneself means knowing what values one holds in high esteem or believes in, the purpose of one's efforts, and one's capabilities. In like manner, losing oneself is losing touch with core values and aspirations that would have guided one's journey in life because one was distracted by other things that do not really matter, which happens often without realizing it. Angel explained how factors such as social pressure (family, friends, and social media), unhealthy competition and comparison with others, and an undue desire to belong could cause people to lose themselves. It is for this reason that holding on to principles like integrity, respect, and discipline is very important in life. Furthermore, according to Angel, people should always remember that character lasts longer than popularity. In conclusion, her advice was that people should work hard to position themselves well in order to grow and to discover themselves without losing personal identity.

"Priorities Shape Your Perspective in Life"
Chidinma discussed the meaning of priorities and life perspectives and how they influence daily lives. According to her, to remain focused, we need to set our priorities right because when they are not right, life becomes confusing and very challenging. Chidinma offered tips that could help in setting priorities right, which included core questions such as: What kind of person do I want to become? What are my goals in life? What am I passionate about? What truly matters to me in life? In addition, she emphasized the view that the body goes wherever the mind goes and that anything that enters your mind shows up somehow in actions you carry out in life. She pointed out that, likewise, sometimes failure teaches us valuable lessons while challenges make us stronger and wiser, and that, with the right mindset, obstacles become opportunities to improve oneself and shine. In this regard, an attitude of gratitude replaces constant complaining, and instead of giving up easily, we become patient and determined. At a point, we will become too good to be ignored. Chidinma went on to stress the need to check one's distraction to avoid losing one's traction, and that every decision we make today affects our tomorrow. Setting our priorities right enables us to approach life with hope, determination and positivity. Furthermore, as she put it, the true measure of intelligence is not what you remember in the classroom but what you can use your knowledge to transform for good in the world.

There was an EDTC Guest Talks programme at the Marist Brothers Juniorate, Uturu, Abia State. This co-curricular programme was held under the auspices of the Elite Debates & Talks Club (EDTC) of Spiritan University Nneochi in collaboration with the Management of the Marist Brothers Juniorate. The event, which was held on Thursday, 14 May 2026, from 11:30 am. to 1:00 p.m., was designed to provide the students with dual-perspective education on psychological discipline and social health awareness.

Programme Administration
The event was facilitated by Rev. Fr. Dr. Chinedu Nwadike,CSSp., the Founder/Director of EDTC. Logistics and media coverage were expertly handled by the EDTC Media Team, namely Wisdom Ezeonye and Isaac Obasi, while the two guest speakers who delivered well-researched talks in PowerPoint were Joyce Oluwafumilola Idowu and Mirian Mmesoma Oparaku. Joyce delivered an interesting talk on "Harnessing Jealousy for Discipline and Social Elevation" while Mirian led an eye-opening discussion on "Drug Abuse Among Teenagers: Dangers and Real-Life Consequences in Nigeria."

"Harnessing Jealousy for Discipline and Social Elevation"
Joyce smoothly de-stigmatized the emotion of jealousy by demonstrating with a real-life story that there are two types of jealousy. Positive (benign) jealousy makes someone commend another person for something special he or she has or is doing while negative (malicious) jealousy makes someone talk down on or spread lies against such a person. Joyce's captivating talk further repurposed jealousy as a diagnostic tool for personal ambition. She educated and motivated the students on the need to move away from negative jealousy to positive jealousy, which in turn enables the person to improve in self-development. The talk also emphasized that social elevation is not a product of luck but of rigorous self-discipline fueled by one's observations and journey towards success. Furthermore, the students were taught strategies to rise within their academic and social circles through merit and
character development.

"Drug Abuse Among Teenagers: Dangers and Real-Life Consequences in Nigeria"
Mirian delivered a powerful talk on drug abuse, its consequences, and solutions. She educated the students on the psychological and physiological traps of substance abuse. Mirian went further to provide sobering images of the short-term and long-term effects of drug abuse on the human brain and the consequences such as the derailment of academic careers and mental health problems. Using a story about one of her friends who engaged in drug abuse towards the end of his university studies, she buttressed the point that young people to stay away from hard drugs rather than use peer pressure and social circumstances as excuses for drug abuse.

Questions and Highlights of Spiritan University Nneochi
While the guest talks were going on, the student of Marist Brothers Juniorate displayed a high level of interest in the two topics. Their broad intellectual curiosity shined through the varied questions they asked during the question-and-answer sessions. This turned out to become a dynamic interactive segment. The Director of EDTC, Fr. Chinedu also made very important contributions to answer their questions. Furthermore, he gave an interesting speech about Spiritan University Nneochi (SUN), which highlighted it as a centre of excellence in learning and character training. This attracted some more questions from students who wanted to know more about the faculties, departments, and programmes offered in SUN. They were also enthralled by the quality of facilities in SUN and the affordable school fees, all of which made some of them develop interest in getting admission in SUN.

Vote of Thanks
The Senior Prefect, on behalf of the Management, staff and students of the Marist Brothers Juniorate, Uturu, thanked the Founder and Director of EDTC, Rev. Fr. Dr. Chinedu Nwadike, CSSp. and his EDTC Team for sacrificing their time and resources to add value to the lives of the students. An EDTC team visited Father Philip Agu Spiritan Academy (FPASA), Akabo, Owerri, Imo State, Nigeria for a guest talk programme, a co-curricular programme that widens the knowledge of young students beyond class work.

The EDTC team arrived in the evening of Friday, 8th May, 2026, while the guest talk programme was held the next day, Saturday, from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm. The guest speakers were Jennifer Chika Nwaokonko, who spoke powerfully on "Tackling Depression through Education and Entrepreneurship," and Hon. Gift Onyinye Johnson, currently the Vice President of EDTC, who delivered an interesting talk on "Overcoming Fears and Taking Risks.""

The Founder/Director of EDTC, Rev. Fr. Dr. Chinedu Nwadike, CSSp., attended the event along with members of the Management of FPASA, namely, the Principal, Rev. Fr. Christopher Chukwu, the Vice Principal/Dean of Studies/ICT Manager, Rev. Fr. Benjamin Okala, the Bursar, Rev. Fr. John Mark Ajulummuo, the Dean of Students' Affairs, Rev. Fr. Christogonus Oyirinwa, the Spiritual Director, Rev. Fr. Raphael Ebute, and Rev. Fr. Jocelyn Mamy, a teacher (an expatriate). Others were Damian Asogwa (a seminarian) and Augustine Agu (on a Discernment Programme).

The EDTC media officers who covered the event were Wisdom Ezeonye and Precious Issah. The guest talks were well-researched and presented in PowerPoint, and the audience found them very informative, educative, and entertaining. Students of FPASA actively interacted with the two presenters during the question-and-answer period.

"Tackling Depression through Education and Entrepreneurship"
Jennifer offered an eye-opening insight on depression, a mental health condition familiar to many people. According to her, it is not just about feeling sad but also about a persistent low-energy mood and loss of interest in many things that have to do with social life. This affects how the person thinks, feels, and functions daily. Jennifer encouraged her listeners to do even little things that matter and to distract their minds with important things whenever they feel depressed. In addition, being engaged in entrepreneurial projects would help keep the mind active and focused on a brighter future. Social activities like doing what interests you, talking to friends, learning new things, and avoiding idleness help in overcoming depression. Taking such steps builds self-confidence, a positive approach to life, and avoidance of negative energy and negative environments.

“Overcoming Fears and Taking Risks”
Gift gave a compelling view of the causes of fear, its consequences, and how to overcome it through taking calculated risks. This operates in everyday environments and learning processes. According to her, appreciating past wins helps one to overcome fear of a task yet to be tackled. When one takes measurable risks, it boosts morale. The awareness that one once tackled a similar task in the past and the "If I can do it, you can also do it" motto have led people to success. Gift also buttressed the point that even with one's fears, the person can still be courageous. Fear is good when it motivates the person to be more careful and to work harder to succeed but bad if it draws the person back.

Spiritan University Nneochi (SUN)
After the guest talks, Fr. Dr. Chinedu took to the stage and elaborately advertised Spiritan University Nneochi by highlighting the various programs and self-developmental opportunities available to students. Students of FPASA were again thrilled by the two guest speakers who answered their questions about life in the university. They talked about the Faculty of Law, the Faculty of Arts, Management and Social Sciences, the Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences, the Faculty of Allied Health and Basic Medical Sciences, and the JUPEB programme. They also described the facilities, the serene environment, which is good for studies, and the strong moral and spiritual ethics in the faith-based university.

Vote of Thanks
The Deputy Senior Prefect of FPASA, speaking on behalf of the Management, staff and students, gave a vote of thanks to Rev. Fr. Dr. Chinedu Nwadike, CSSp. and the EDTC team and expressed interest in having more of such interesting activities in the future. He promised that everything they learnt would make positive impacts in their lives. He also expressed a desire for many of their students to enrol in SUN for their university education.
Thereafter, a closing prayer was said.
