Also in attendance were renowned scholars and medical experts from the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH), Al-Hikmah University, and Kwara State University (KWASU). The Provost of Kwara State College of Nursing Sciences, Oke-Ode (KWCONOO), today attended the Fidau prayer for the late Asiwaju of Oke-Ode Land and former Member of the House of Representatives, Alhaji Kola Yusuf, held at his residence in Basin, along Fate Road, Ilorin.

During the visit, the Provost signed the condolence register and joined family, friends, and well-wishers in praying for the repose of the late elder statesman, whose legacy of service and leadership will continue to be remembered.

May Almighty Allah (SWT) forgive his shortcomings, grant him Al-Jannatul Firdaus, and comfort his family, Elesa of Oke-Ode and the entire Oke-Ode community. Ameen.

KWCONOO Student Wins MVP Award at 2026 Nigerian Nursing Students' Olympiad

The Kwara State College of Nursing Sciences, Oke-Ode (KWCONOO), has recorded an impressive outing at the 2026 Nigerian Nursing Students' Olympiad held in Calabar, Cross River State, with one of its students emerging as the Most Valuable Participant (MVP) of the competition.

The college's representative, Abey Kazeem Ayobami, displayed remarkable brilliance and resilience despite unforeseen travel delays that caused the institution's delegation to arrive at the venue during the concluding stage of the quiz competition. Before their arrival, the North Central Zone had been represented solely by the contestant from Niger State during the first two rounds.

Undeterred by the circumstances, Abey delivered an outstanding performance in the final round, answering six out of seven questions correctly to emerge as the winner of the round. Although the accumulated points were insufficient to secure the overall championship, his exceptional display earned him the competition's coveted MVP recognition.

Organisers also acknowledged Abey's extraordinary commitment, noting that he travelled continuously for more than 24 hours across six states before proceeding directly to the competition venue to represent Kwara State through KWCONOO.

The management of the College described the recognition as a proud moment, especially as it marked its maiden participation in the national Olympiad. Beyond the competition, the event, according to the management, provided students with valuable opportunities for learning, networking, and professional exposure alongside nursing students from across the country.

The students of the College also expressed appreciation to the Provost, Alhaji Quadri Olanrewaju Lamidi and his management's team for their steadfast support and commitment to promoting academic excellence and creating opportunities for students to compete and excel on national platforms.

KWCONOO Mourns Former Reps Member, Asiwaju of Oke-Ode, Kola Yusuf

The management, staff and students of the Kwara State College of Nursing Sciences, Oke-Ode (KWCONOO), have expressed deep sorrow over the death of the Asiwaju of Oke-Ode Land and former member of the House of Representatives, Alhaji Kola Yusuf.

In a condolence message issued today through the Chief Press Secretary of the College, AbdulHafeez Oyewole, on behalf of the college, the Provost, Alhaji Olanrewaju AbdulQuadri, described the late Yusuf as an accomplished leader, respected elder statesman and passionate advocate for the growth and development of Oke-Ode.

According to the Provost, the deceased leader left behind a remarkable legacy of selfless service, wise counsel and unwavering commitment to community development, noting that his contributions would continue to inspire future generations.

AbdulQuadri extended the institution's heartfelt condolences to His Royal Highness, the Elesa of Oke-Ode, the Elesa-in-Council, the National President of Oke-Ode Descendant Association and the entire people of Oke-Ode over what he described as an irreplaceable loss.

He prayed that Almighty Allah (SWT) forgives the shortcomings of the late elder statesman, grants him Al-Jannatul Firdaus and gives his family and loved ones the strength to bear the loss.

KWARA STATE COLLEGE OF NURSING SCIENCES, OKE ODE, SECURES APPROVAL TO COMMENCE PUBLIC HEALTH NURSING AND COMMUNITY MIDWIFERY PROGRAMMES

The Board of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) has approved the commencement of the Public Health Nursing and Community Midwifery programmes at Kwara State College of Nursing Sciences, Oke Ode (KWCONOO).

The Provost of the College, Alhaji Olanrewaju AbdulQuadri, announced this significant achievement on Monday during a general meeting with the management and staff of the institution. He explained that the approval followed a successful accreditation exercise conducted by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria after the College satisfied all stipulated requirements. The Council subsequently deployed an accreditation team to assess the institution's readiness to commence the programmes.

The Provost disclosed that efforts are already underway to facilitate students' enrolment through partnerships with non-governmental organisations, local government sponsorship schemes, and self sponsorship opportunities for prospective candidates.

Speaking on the admission requirements, he explained that applicants seeking admission into the Community Midwifery programme are not required to sit for the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examination. Interested candidates with the requisite O' Level science qualifications are eligible to apply. Similarly, registered nurses seeking admission into the post basic Public Health Nursing programme may apply directly to the College, subject to meeting the prescribed admission requirements.

Alhaji AbdulQuadri described the approval of the two programmes as a major milestone in the continued growth of the institution. He noted that the development would further strengthen the College's capacity to produce competent healthcare professionals, contribute to improved healthcare delivery at the community level, and provide additional opportunities for individuals aspiring to build careers in the health sector.

He further stated that graduates of the two year Community Midwifery programme will be awarded the Licensed Community Midwife (LCM) qualification upon successful completion of their training, while graduates of the Public Health Nursing programme will be awarded the Registered Public Health Nurse (RPHN) qualification.

The Provost assured prospective applicants and other stakeholders that further details regarding admissions, application procedures, and the commencement dates for both programmes would be communicated through the College's official communication channels. He encouraged interested candidates to monitor the College's platforms for subsequent announcements.

KWCONOO PROVOST COMMENDS STUDENT'S INITIATIVE AT 'READ AND RISE' MENTORSHIP PROGRAMME

The Provost of Kwara State College of Nursing Sciences, Oke-Ode, Alhaji Olanrewaju AbdulQuadri, was a special guest at the READ and RISE mentorship programme, a commendable initiative organised by one of the College's students, Abey Kazeem Ayobami, for the senior students of the University of Ilorin Secondary School held on Friday, 26th of June, 2026 at the Unilorin Secondary School Hall.

The Provost was accompanied by the Dean of Student Affairs, Mr Sani Mohammed, alongside Mr Tajudeen and Miss Muniroh.

Demonstrating his unwavering commitment to innovation, leadership development, and the encouragement of positive student initiatives, the Provost took time out of his schedule to attend the event. In his opening remarks, he applauded the organiser for conceiving and executing such a meaningful programme, describing the initiative as a worthy example of student leadership, community engagement, and academic mentorship.

The READ and RISE mentorship programme was conceived and organised as a personal initiative by Abey Kazeem Ayobami, a student of the College, with the aim of inspiring and guiding senior students of the University of Ilorin Secondary School towards academic excellence and personal development.

The Provost of the Kwara State College of Nursing Sciences, Oke-Ode (KWCONOO), Alhaji Olanrewaju AbdulQuadri, has felicitated with Muslims across Nigeria and the world on the commencement of the Islamic New Year, Hijrah 1448 AH.

In a statement issued today by the Chief Press Secretary of the College, AbdulHafeez Oyewole, the Provost described the Hijrah as a significant event in Islamic history, symbolising faith, sacrifice, perseverance, and unwavering trust in Almighty Allah.

He urged Muslims to embrace the lessons of the Hijrah by promoting peace, unity, tolerance, and good conduct in their daily lives, while remaining committed to the service of humanity and the development of society.

KWCONOO Quiz Team Presents Certificate to Provost, Receives Cash Reward for Emerging Second at NUNSA Competition

The students of Kwara State College of Nursing Sciences, Oke-Ode (KWCONOO), who recently emerged second at the Nigerian Universities Nursing Students Association (NUNSA) Quiz Competition, on Tuesday, 9th June 2026, paid a courtesy visit to the Provost of the College, Alhaji Olanrewaju AbdulQuadri, to formally present the certificate awarded to the College following their outstanding performance.

While receiving the students and their Dean, the Provost expressed delight at the team's impressive outing, describing their achievement as a source of pride to the College.

In recognition of their excellence and dedication, he announced a cash reward of Twenty Thousand Naira (N20,000) each for the four student representatives: Oriade Abdulsalam, Abey kazeem Ayobami, Kareem idayat omotoyosi, and Arowolo Rodiat; as well as the Dean of Students Affairs (DSA), Mr Mohammed Sani, who provided coaching and mentorship to the team.

Alhaji AbdulQuadri noted that the College's second-place finish was particularly commendable, considering that the institutions that placed ahead and behind KWCONOO are degree-awarding universities.

According to him, the College can rightly be regarded as the best-performing nursing institution at the competition.

Present during the presentation were the Acting Registrar, Mr Hanafi Ibrahim; the Dean of Students Affairs, Mr Mohammed Sani; and three of the four student representatives: Oriade Abdulsalam, who doubles as the President of the Students' Union Government (SUG); Abey Kazeem Ayobami; and Kareem Idayat Omotoyosi.
