SÒÚN OF OGBOMOSOLAND INAUGURATES 13-MEMBER BOARD TO ESTABLISH NOUN COMMUNITY STUDY CENTRE

In a landmark move aimed at expanding access to quality higher education and accelerating human capital development, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye, Orumogege III, the Sòún of Ogbomosoland, has inaugurated a distinguished 13-member Board to drive the establishment of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) Community Study Centre in Ogbomosoland.

The initiative represents a significant milestone in the monarch’s vision of transforming Ogbomosoland into a nationally recognised hub for educational excellence, innovation, digital
learning, entrepreneurship, and sustainable socio-economic development.

The Board brings together eminent professionals from academia, government, international development, technology, education, finance, and community leadership. Their wealth of
experience and proven leadership are expected to provide the strategic direction required to deliver a world-class Community Study Centre that will serve not only Ogbomosoland but neighbouring communities and beyond.

The proposed NOUN Community Study Centre is conceived as a flagship institution for Open and Distance Learning (ODL), equipped with modern learning facilities, smart classrooms, digital infrastructure, innovation and entrepreneurship hubs, research support services, and community-based educational programmes designed to meet the evolving needs of learners in the 21st century.

While inaugurating the Board, His Imperial Majesty charged members to approach the
assignment with vision, dedication, professionalism, and an unwavering commitment to excellence.

He emphasized that the establishment of the Study Centre is not merely an educational project but a strategic investment in the future of Ogbomosoland—one that will create greater educational opportunities for youths and adults, promote digital inclusion, strengthen workforce development, and contribute meaningfully to national development.

The Board has been mandated to engage with the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), coordinate relevant stakeholders, mobilise institutional and community support, facilitate regulatory compliance, develop implementation strategies, and provide oversight for the successful establishment and sustainable operation of the Study Centre.

As part of the inauguration ceremony, members of the Board were formally presented with the Concept Note and Terms of Reference, which outline the strategic objectives, governance framework, implementation roadmap, and expected deliverables for the initiative.

The Palace expresses strong confidence that the calibre, experience, and commitment of the Board members will ensure the successful realization of this transformative project, positioning
Ogbomosoland as a leading centre for accessible university education, digital innovation, lifelong learning, and knowledge-driven development in Nigeria.

Upon completion, the Centre is expected to
serve as a catalyst for educational advancement, digital empowerment, entrepreneurship, and regional economic growth.

THROWBACK TO A SEASON OF IMPACT ACROSS OGBOMOSOLAND

Some throwbacks are worth more than memories — they represent lives touched and futures strengthened.

Through the Ogbomosoland Education Committee, in partnership with The Funmi-Adewole Foundation, we embarked on a wide-reaching educational support outreach across multiple Local Governments in Ogbomosoland — and the impact was truly remarkable.

We visited and supported the following schools:

📍 Ogbomoso North Local Government (ONLG)

* Zoe Group of Schools – 100 students received school bags, sharpeners, erasers, biros, and ponchos.
* C & S Primary School – 92 students received 368 exercise books.
* Nurudeen Grammar School II – 100 students received school bags, sharpeners, erasers, rulers, and ponchos.

📍 Ogbomoso South Local Government (OSLG)

* Baptist Secondary Grammar School, Ahoyaya – 150 students received school bags, pouches, exercise books (2 each), sharpeners, and erasers.
👉 Additionally, 12 students had their school uniforms fully sponsored.
* CAC Primary School – 72 students received 216 exercise books.
* Methodist Grammar School – 176 students received school bags, pouches, 352 books, 352 pencils, and erasers.
* Wesley Comprehensive High School, Ogbomoso – 100 students received school bags, sharpeners, erasers, rulers, and ponchos.
- Molete 1, 2 & 3 – 452 students received 904 exercise books.

📍 Ogooluwa Local Government

* Baptist Basic School, Ile-Abu – 54 students received 216 books.
* Methodist Primary School 1, Obada – 67 students received 201 books.
* Baptist Basic Schools 2, 3 & 4, Obada – Over 170 students collectively received hundreds of exercise books to support their learning.

📍 Orire Local Government

* Baptist Basic School, Oolo – 54 students received 162 books.
* Baptist Basic School, Old Ayeetoro – 27 students received 81 books.
* CAC Basic School, Asani – 35 students received 105 books.

📍 Surulere Local Government

* Holy Trinity Basic School, Aroje – 118 students received 354 books.
* Mayin Community Primary School – 58 students received 232 books.
* Baptist Basic Primary School 1 & 2 – 270 students received 1,080 books.
* HLA Basic School 1 & 2 – 251 students received 502 books.

In total, over 2,700 students directly benefited from this outreach. Thousands of exercise books were distributed alongside hundreds of school bags, pouches, rulers, pencils, sharpeners, erasers, and ponchos.

This initiative was not just about materials — it was about restoring dignity, boosting confidence, and reinforcing our collective commitment to quality education in Ogbomosoland.

Every classroom visited reminded us why we must continue to show up.
Every child reminded us that the future is worth investing in.
