Who is Olasunkanmi Olaleye, aspirant for Oyo Central Senatorial Seat?

1. A Proven Leader with Unmatched Experience

Barrister Olasunkanmi Olaleye stands out as one of Oyo State’s most seasoned public servants, with a track record that cuts across critical sectors of governance. As the current Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, he has championed initiatives like the 50% Tractorisation Subsidy that directly empowers farmers, boosts food security, and modernizes rural economies. His leadership style blends policy expertise with grassroots engagement, earning him respect among farmers, stakeholders, and traditional institutions across the state.

2. Driving Agricultural Transformation

Under his watch, the Ministry of Agriculture has moved beyond rhetoric to practical interventions — from tractor access and mechanization to farmer registration and linkage with extension services. These efforts show a commissioner who understands that agriculture is not just a ministry but the backbone of Oyo’s economy. His focus on productivity, youth participation, and rural livelihoods positions him to drive federal agricultural policies that will benefit Oyo Central directly.

3. Steward of Electoral Integrity

Before his current role, Barr. Olaleye served as Chairman of the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC), where he oversaw the conduct of local government elections. In a role that demands neutrality, legal acumen, and firmness, he managed processes that strengthened confidence in grassroots democracy. This experience underlines his understanding of electoral systems and his capacity to protect the will of the people — qualities essential for effective representation at the Senate.

4. Defender of the Rule of Law

As a trained lawyer, his tenure at OYSIEC was marked by adherence to procedure and fairness, even under political pressure. That legal grounding gives him the discipline to interpret bills, scrutinize executive actions, and protect constituents’ rights at the national level. He brings to the Senate not just political ambition but constitutional literacy.

5. Breadth Across Ministries

His competence is further proven by his stewardship of multiple strategic ministries: Education; Establishment and Training; Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters; and Trade and Investment. In Education, he contributed to policies that improved access and quality. In Establishment, he handled civil service reforms and personnel management. At Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, he worked closely with traditional rulers and council administrators, deepening his grasp of grassroots governance. In Trade and Investment, he supported frameworks to attract enterprise and expand economic opportunities.

6. Bridge Between Government and Traditional Institutions

His time in Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters gave him direct access to royal fathers, community leaders, and local councils — the real custodians of grassroots stability. He understands the delicate balance between modern governance and traditional authority, an asset for legislative work that touches land, culture, and local administration in Oyo Central.

7. Experience in Human Capital Development

Through the Ministries of Education and Establishment, Barr. Olaleye dealt with two critical areas: schools and the civil service. He saw firsthand how policies affect teachers, students, and workers. That insight matters in the Senate, where laws on education funding, pensions, and public sector reforms directly affect families in Oyo Central.

8. Promoting Commerce and Enterprise

At Trade and Investment, he supported initiatives that connect local producers with markets and encourage private sector growth. He understands what it takes to move a farmer from subsistence to agribusiness, and what young entrepreneurs need to scale. In the Senate, that translates to pushing for credit access, infrastructure, and policies that unlock economic potential in the district.

9. Need for a Senator Who Understands Oyo Central

Oyo Central Senatorial District needs a voice with both legislative intelligence and executive experience. Barr. Olaleye’s legal background, combined with years of navigating policy, administration, and development programs, positions him to sponsor impactful bills, attract federal projects, and provide oversight that delivers results. His familiarity with agriculture — the economic mainstay of many communities in Oyo Central — means he can translate national legislation into direct benefits for farmers, youths, and entrepreneurs.

10. Competence, Character, Continuity

Beyond positions held, Barr. Olasunkanmi Olaleye represents stability, competence, and a politics of service. He has worked under different administrations and delivered across portfolios without controversy, showing discipline and focus on governance over rhetoric. For Oyo Central, his aspiration to the Senate is not just ambition — it is continuity of service on a larger platform, bringing the district a representative who knows government from within, understands its people, and has the capacity to turn policies into progress.

Barrister Olaleye while declaring his senatorial bid, said he has been a reputable lawyer for 28 years, a move he described as an added advantage to his bid if allowed to represent the people of Oyo Central Senatorial District, as his background in law interpretation makes him a suitable candidate for the senatorial district.

He also made it known that he would be the senator for the party and he would always place the party first and ahead of every other thing.

The Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development said he is not new to public service as he has served in different capacities, such as the Chairman of the Land Allocation Committee in 2006, and Chairman of Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission between 2007 and 2011.

The PDP chieftain who is considered a nomadic public servant said that since the inception of Engr Seyi Makinde-led administration, he has served as Commissioner for Establishing and Training, Education, Science and Technology; Trade, Industry and Investment; Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters; and currently, Agriculture and Rural Development

He said his experience in the ministries he has served afforded him the needed experience to get better representation for the people as experiences gathered across these ministries make him a better aspirant ahead of others

While also giving his goodwill message, the State Secretary of the Party, Hon. Oyeyemi Oyelami said that Barrister Olaleye's antecedent has preceded him as he is well-known for putting the party first and also delivering on the mandate of his office.

He prayed that his aspiration would come to fruition as he has shown that he would not let the party down both in service delivery and bringing the dividends of democracy to the people.

The State Organising Secretary, Chief Mrs Wulemotu Ibitoye urged Barrister Olaleye to continue being a good ambassador of the party he has always been. She charged him not to deviate from his Omoluabi ethos which he is known for.

She pleaded for women to be taken care of more than they currently are as they are the army who are used for electioneering work but their rewards do not commensurate with the work and energy they put in.

The chairman of all the PDP local government chairmen, Hon. Falowo said it is the turn of politicians who know what it takes to win elections to take the mantle of leadership.

He further charged him not to relent in his efforts to take care of the party as this continues to put the party on the path of winning.

In their remarks, the Ogo-oluwa and Surulere Local Government Party chairmen said the roles Barrister Olasunkanmi Olaleye has been playing in both local government areas are the reasons the PDP has not died, as his leadership roles in the two local government areas have provided stability in the face of hostility and adversity.

While giving the vote of thanks, the State Legal Adviser of the Party, Barrister Idris Durosaro said the Party in the Senatorial District appreciated the Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development for choosing the path of the Party to declare his ambition whole also noting his aspiration. He urged other aspirants to emulate Barrister Olaleye who has declared his ambition with the Party and not on social media.

He also charged him to meet other critical stakeholders across the eleven local government areas of the senatorial district and particularly the overall leader of the Party in the State, Governor Seyi Makinde.

He also appreciated the commitment of the party members towards the party's growth and support towards the Seyi Makinde-led Oyo State Government, promising that the party will continue to do right by the people through excellent presentation, quality service delivery and people-centred candidates.

Oyo State Government has trained 116 Extension Agents and Monitoring Officers on the newly improved mapping application deployed under the State’s 50% Tractorisation Subsidy Programme, as part of efforts to strengthen agricultural service delivery and ensure transparency in government interventions.

Declaring the training open, the State Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Barr. Olasunkanmi Olaleye, stated that agriculture remains a central pillar in the economic development agenda of Governor Engr. Seyi Makinde, explained that the administration remains committed to boosting food production while ensuring efficiency, transparency and accountability in the implementation of agricultural programmes across the State.

He noted that the introduction of the upgraded mapping application represents a significant milestone in the Tractorisation Subsidy Programme, as it will enable accurate geo-referencing of farm locations and sizes, eliminate duplication, ensure fair allocation of subsidised services, strengthen monitoring and evaluation, and provide real-time data for planning and policy decisions.

According to him, the innovation will also enhance transparency and accountability in programme implementation.

Barr. Olaleye therefore urged the participants to take the training seriously, noting that Extension Agents and Monitoring Officers remain the backbone of agricultural service delivery in the State.
