THERE IS NO TEACHERS DAY IN JAPAN AND THERE IS NO NEED FOR IT*
In Japan , there is no Teacher's Day .
One day, I asked my Japanese colleague, Teacher Yamamota:
- How do you celebrate Teacher's Day in Japan?
Surprised by my question , he replied :
- We don't have Teacher's Day .
When I heard his reply , I was not sure whether I should believe him or not. A thought passed through my mind : " Why a country , which is so advanced in economy, sciences and technology, is so disrespectful towards teachers and their work ? "
***
Once, after work, Yamamota invited me to his house . We took the metro since it was far away . It was the evening peak hour, and the wagons in the metro train were overcrowded . I managed to find a space to stand, holding tightly the overhead rail. Suddenly, the elderly man who was seated beside me offered me his seat. Not understanding this respectful behaviour of an elderly man , I declined, but he was persistent, and I was forced to sit . Once we were out of the metro , I asked Yamamota to explain what exactly the whitebeard old man did. Yamamota smiled and pointed towards the tag of teacher I was wearing and said :
- "The old man has seen the tag of a teacher on you and as a sign of respect towards your status, offered you his seat."
Since I was visiting Yamamota for the first time, I felt uncomfortable going there with empty hands so I decided to buy a gift . I shared my thoughts with Yamamota, he supported the idea and said that little further, there is a shop for teachers , where one can purchase goods at reduced prices. Once again , I couldn't hold my emotions :
- Privileges are offered only to teachers ? I asked .
Confirming my words , Yamamota said:
- In Japan, teaching is the most respected profession and the teacher is the most respected person. The Japanese entrepreneurs are very happy when teachers come to their shops, they consider it an honour .
***
During my stay in Japan, I've observed multiple times the utmost respect of the Japanese towards teachers. They have special seats allocated for them in metro , there are special shops for them , teachers there don't line up in queue for tickets for whatever type of transport. That's why the Japanese teachers don't need a special day , when every day in their life is a celebration.

Spread this story to everyone. Let the society grow to appreciate the teachers to this level . Retell this story to your colleagues so that their chests swell with pride ..

ABUSE OF AUTHORITY: STOP DATING YOUR STUDENTS

Teachers, be aware: dating students is not love, it's exploitation. It's a betrayal of trust and a violation of professional boundaries. You're not only harming the student, but also compromising the learning environment and your own integrity.

When you engage in a romantic relationship with a student, you:

- Distort their perception of healthy relationships
- Create an unfair advantage or disadvantage for them in class
- Undermine the trust and respect between students and teachers
- Risk facing severe consequences, including job loss and legal repercussions

Your role is to educate, mentor, and inspire. Not to pursue personal interests at the expense of your students' well-being. Stop, reflect, and prioritize your students' needs.

One day, a sly lawyer sold a well to a clever teacher. The next day, the lawyer appeared at the teacher's doorstep and said, "You need to pay extra for the water in the well. I only sold you the well itself, not the water."

The teacher smiled and replied, "Actually, I was about to visit you to say that I only purchased the well's structure, not the water. You're the one who's been storing your water in my well all this time. Either remove your water or pay me rent for using my property."

The lawyer's face turned red as he realized the teacher had outsmarted him. "I was just joking," the lawyer stammered.

The teacher smiled and said, "Lawyers are taught by teachers before becoming lawyers. How do you think you can be smarter than your teacher?"

The lawyer's grin faded, acknowledging the teacher's cleverness and his own oversight.

I Was Here Before Him! Why Is He Earning More Than Me?”

That’s a common frustration in many schools. A teacher who has spent 10 or 15 years in a school suddenly finds out that a new staff member, just months in, is earning far more. The shock. The ang€r. The bitterne$$. But let’s be honest—sometimes, it’s not about seniority. It’s about value and negotiation.

Many teachers accepted their current salaries years ago without proper negotiation. They were either too desperate or too humble to ask for more. And now, years have passed with little or no salary review. Meanwhile, a new teacher walks in, boldly states what they’re worth, and gets it. Is it unfair? Maybe. But it’s the reality of how business works.

You see, for most school owners, a school is not just a place of learning—it’s a business. They’ve invested millions into buildings, staff, equipment, branding, and more. Just like any other business owner, they want returns on their investment. And when they find someone who they believe will raise the school’s standard or reputation, they’re willing to pay top dollar. That’s why one teacher may earn N80k and another N250k in the same school.

But here’s the hard truth: no one forced you to accept your current pay. You agreed to it. And unless you take steps to renegotiate or prove your increased value, things may not change.

Yes, there are good teachers who are paid far less than they deserve. But that’s where self-awareness comes in. Know your worth. Improve your skills. Master your subject. Build your personal brand. Make yourself too valuable to be ignored. When you carry value, you can speak boldly.

If you truly believe you’re underpaid, stop whispering complaints in the staff room. Instead, request a meeting with your school owner. Present your case. Show your impact. Ask for a review. And if nothing changes, consider resigning respectfully and stating clearly that you’re leaving because your value is no longer reflected in your pay. If you’re truly valuable, they won’t want to lose you. If you’re not, they’ll gladly say goodbye and do THANKSGIVING d next Sunday😂😂.

So let’s stop the bitterne$$. Stop the comparisons. If someone earns more than you, ask yourself: Did they negotiate better? Do they bring something different to the table? Instead of f!ghting your employer or your colleague, f!ght for your own growth.

Because at the end of the day, you are paid based on what you accept—and what you offer.
