Today we mourn, but we also remember.
In the 1980s,/1990s when many people didn’t understand or even care about the deaf in the church, our leader, Mummy Apeh, heard God’s call.
She saw brothers and sisters sitting in service but not understanding a single word. She saw people being ignored, and left out just because they couldn’t hear.
People laughed. They said, “Why waste time? They can’t hear anyway.”
They mocked her for using her hands to preach. They said it was a distraction.
But Mummy Apeh did not stop.
With nothing but faith and determination, she started gathering the deaf. She taught us sign language. She taught us the Bible, one sign at a time. She fought for interpreters, for inclusion, for dignity.
She continued, even when it was lonely. Even when the church didn’t have the resources. Even when people talked.
Because to her, every deaf soul mattered to God.
Because of her, we have a Deaf Ministry today in Deeper Life Bible Church
Because of her, many of us deaf, know Jesus in our own language.
Because of her, our church learned that worship has no sound barrier.
She started with mockery in the 80s/90s... and she continued with love until her last day.
We have lost our leader, but we have not lost her vision.
We will keep signing. We will keep teaching. We will keep reaching the deaf.
That is how we honour her.

ME: I have to repost this piece to let more people know and celebrate our late sister. I didn't know her personally, but only saw her on the screen during messages. She is no more, but her legacy lives on and her impact will never be forgotten.
There is a crucial lesson for us all to learn here. Whatever God has committed to us to do must be done because we don't know how much time we have. We should not be bothered whether others understand the ministry, or not, what is most important is that we focus on, and fulfill it. I personally have received a lot of encouragement from this write-up I shared above.
Brethren, let us all work harder to fulfill what we have been given to do, as long as it is for the furtherance of the Kingdom of God, even when others don't understand it. Be a light and a standard bearer wherever you are, and in whatever you do. Push aside every discouragement. Let God count on you. He is the One you will give account to at the end.
May God comfort our sister's family and the church of God. May they have the fortitude to bear the huge loss.
