➖ 5 Mistakes Children Make When Subtracting (and How Parents Can Help!)
Does your child often get subtraction questions wrong?
The problem may not be subtraction itself—it could be one of these common mistakes:
❌ 1. Forgetting to regroup (borrow).
❌ 2. Subtracting the bigger digit from the smaller one regardless of position.
❌ 3. Ignoring place value (tens and ones).
❌ 4. Counting backwards incorrectly.
❌ 5. Rushing without checking the answer.
💡 Parent Tip: Encourage your child to slow down, line up the numbers correctly, and ask:
✔️ "Do I need to regroup?"
✔️ "Am I subtracting the ones first?"
✔️ "Does my answer make sense?"
A few minutes of focused practice each day can make a big difference in your child's confidence.

Making place value fun—one basketball shot at a time! 🏀🔢
In this game, learners count the hundreds, tens and ones, identify the three-digit number and choose the correct basketball. Activities like this help children develop place-value understanding, number recognition and confidence in maths.
I provide engaging virtual maths lessons for KS1 and lower KS2 learners.

🔢 The Place Value Trick Every Parent Should Know!

If your child struggles with addition, subtraction, or reading big numbers, the real problem may not be calculation—it could be place value.

✨ Try this simple trick at home:

73 = 7 Tens + 3 Ones

Instead of saying "seventy-three," ask: 👉 "How many tens?" 👉 "How many ones?"

When children understand that the position of a digit changes its value, maths becomes much easier.

🎯 Try this challenge: Can your child tell you how many hundreds, tens, and ones are in 356?
