Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) Project Commences Borehole Drilling for Tree Seedling Multiplication at Abdulkadir Kure University**

Abdulkadir Kure University, Minna, is proud to announce the commencement of borehole drilling as part of the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) project. This initiative aims to enhance tree seedling multiplication efforts, which are crucial for fostering agro-climatic resilience in semi-arid regions.

As part of the university's commitment to sustainable development and environmental conservation, the ACReSAL project focuses on empowering local communities by providing them with the resources and knowledge necessary to improve their agricultural practices. The drilling of boreholes will establish a reliable water source, vital for nurturing multi-purpose tree seedlings that can thrive in challenging climatic conditions.

The projectโ€™s desk officer at the university, Dr. Salihu Tayo Yusuf, emphasized that increasing tree cover is essential for combating desertification, enhancing biodiversity, and improving soil health. He further stated that the seedlings produced will be used not only for reforestation efforts but also to support agroforestry practices that can significantly boost farmers' productivity and resilience against climate change.

According to Dr. Yusuf, the boreholes have been strategically placed to optimize irrigation across the university's designated agricultural areas.

The ACReSAL desk officer added that, beyond educational benefits, the project aligns with broader community goals of enhancing local landscapes and promoting sustainable practices. The fruit trees and flowering plants cultivated from these seedlings will be used in campus beautification efforts and will also be available for distribution to local community members.

This collaborative effort between ACReSAL and Abdulkadir Kure University, Minna, represents a model for how organizations and educational institutions can work together to create sustainable solutions for environmental challenges.

The university encourages students, faculty, and community members to participate in related activities, which will educate them on agro-climatic resilience and the importance of tree planting.

It can be recalled that on September 23, 2024, Abdulkadir Kure University launched the Campus Green-Up Project and commissioned ten tractors, alongside a robust plan for land reclamation, youth and women empowerment, and the drilling of boreholes.

Abdulkadir Kure University, Minna, is Committed to Sustainable Solutions for a Resilient Future.
