We at ECWA secondary school Makurdi emerge the winners of the Africa STEM Storytelling Competition April 2026 with our outstanding team of young innovators

With the guidance of their facilitator, Mr. Emmanuel Elijah, the team developed a hands-on STEM prototype project aimed at addressing the pressing issue of improper disposal of plastic and solid waste — a major contributor to flooding and health hazards in their community.

Their prototype demonstrated a practical and innovative approach to waste management, showing how simple, scalable solutions can create meaningful environmental impact. Beyond the project itself, the team stood out for their strong communication, critical thinking, collaboration, and creativity, clearly articulating how their solution can be implemented within their local context.

👏🏾 This achievement highlights the power of equipping young African girls with STEM skills to identify challenges, design solutions, and confidently tell their stories.

We celebrate our Curiosity Crew for their excellence and for inspiring a new generation of innovators across the continent.
