What if Africa’s biggest opportunity in AI is not consuming it but building with it?
AI is moving faster than almost any technology we have seen. Generative AI reached 53% global population adoption within just three years, while 88% of organisations now report using AI.

Africa is already participating. 82% of African organisations surveyed are running AI pilots, and 64% of workers are already using AI. But the bigger opportunity is moving from experimentation to building and scaling solutions that create real value.

And imagine what that could mean for us.
AI built or adapted for African agriculture, healthcare, education, finance, local languages and small businesses.
The World Bank identifies four foundations for AI participation: connectivity, compute, context (data), and competency.

So the question shouldn't only be:
“How can Africa use AI?”
It should also be:
“What can Africa build with AI?”
Because the future shouldn't make us permanent consumers of other people's innovation.
We need the skills, data, infrastructure and imagination to become creators too.
And that is why AI literacy matters.
