Rose Agbasiere is the first Nigerian girl to become a Nun in Nigeria . She was In Dublin, Ireland, en route to the novitiate of the Missionary Sisters of the Holy Rosary in Killeshandra, she was met by Sister Mary Lucy O'Brien. Miss Agbasiere is the dauther of Gregory Agbasiere of Uli, Eastern Nigeria.

Nuns had been in nigeria since 1928, but it was not until 1953 that they accepted the first Igbo woman, who trained as a teacher. She would come to play an important role not only as teacher, but as a relief worker when she ran a refugee camp in Owerri, nigeria during the civil war.
