There are too many distractions at home these days that take children away from academic work.

CHILDREN ALWAYS NEED AN EXAMPLE TO LEARN
I teach Mathematics. Many times I define concepts in the most simple way I can and make sure I emphasize it VERY WELL.
In my little mind, I do assume that clear instructions are enough to guide the child to do what is expected of them. Many times when I give them a classwork, I would expect that they would use my "clear" definition to do the work. Many times I am annoyed when I see them looking at the examples one step after another.
But I have discovered that that is the character and nature of children. They must have a vivid and clear picture of you whatever concept, principle or value you wished they grabbed before it becomes part of their lives.
"Clear" instructions alone are not enough to affect a child.
Your day to day living affects the child more than your words.
Remember, children need an EXAMPLE.

"THANK YOU MY CHILDREN"

Any time they are eating their food, one of the first things they will say as if they planned it, "Mr. Isaac come and eat"
Many times I tend to wonder what they mean, whether they truly mean it or they are just being Africans. 😀😀😀So, I decided to ask them today. "Anytime you want to eat your food, you would say I should come and eat, how will it look like seeing me on your seat, sharing your food with you?"
One responded, "It will be quite weird" Then I asked, "But why do you always ask me to join you to eat?"
Then one of the boys responded, we expect you to say "Thank you my children"🤣🤣🤣🤣

THEY DON'T HAVE SPOON

Kai, children at it again.
A lady was teaching a group of children.
She was telling them that they need to thank God at every point of their lives and for every thing God provides.
She mentioned, "Do you know that even for the food we eat everyday, we are supposed to appreciate God?
The children chorused "Yes ma".
She went on, "are you also aware that some people have food but can't eat?"
As usual, they chorused, "Yes ma".
She asked, what do you think is the reason why they can't eat their food?
One girl answered, "Because they don't have spoon" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Even now, we are still laughing.

ARE YOU MY FATHER'S FRIEND?

That was the first question, and I was wondering whether I should say yes or no. So I thought for a while then I asked him "who is your father"? Then he told me his father's name. Right away, I connected the dots.
His elder sister is in Primary Six. I had taken her in the company of other children to go take part in a Math Competition. While on the way returning, I called the father to come pick her in school. This cute little boy was probably listening to our conversation over the phone. The following day in school, he walked up to me to ask this suspicious question.
Now the road was clear and I could move freely. So I said "yes, I am your father's friend"
"So that means you are my uncle, right?"
"Yes, I am your uncle". Most times children regard older family friends as "uncles" if they are males.
Guess what the next question was: "So, can I use your phone to play Game?"🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄
Ah! Ah! What has the foregoing discussion got to do with game and phone?
Many times I laugh at children's "wisdom".
As far as this lad is concerned, he has reasoned in a profound way and gotten me.
Guess what my answer was, "No way"!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I stumbled over this CLEAN, BEAUTIFUL handwriting of a Primary Five girl.

CHILDREN HAVE REAL QUESTIONS OOO, PLEASE LISTEN TO THEM
"Why is it that the Igede people forbid their own from taking wives from or giving their own daughters into marriage to Tiv people?" This is a question asked me by a 9 - year old girl! According to her, she had asked her parents this same question but they would rather not speak about it. Learn not to ignore your children. Shed light on issues they are confused about. According to her, she wants to "know more about her culture"

Children know so much these days
Am talking about children of just 10 years of age here!
This 10 year old boy offended a 10 year old girl. So I asked the boy to kneel down and apologize. This cute little boy went on one of his knee to say "I am sorry".
From nowhere, another 10 year old boy shouted, "are you proposing to her?"
Me: What does a 10 year old boy know about proposal?
Spend time with your children. They will surprise you with what they know.
