Worker's Day was yesterday but do you how May 1st became Workers’ Day?

It goes back to a time when work had no off switch. During the Industrial Revolution, people—men, women, even children—worked up to 16 hours a day in harsh conditions, with little pay and no protection.
Workers began pushing back with a simple demand:

8 hours for work, 8 for rest, 8 for life.
On May 1, 1886, thousands went on strike across the U.S., especially in Chicago. A few days later, a protest turned deadly during the Haymarket Affair—a bomb, gunfire, lives were lost, and activists punished in a way many believed was unjust.

That moment gave the movement weight. By 1889, May 1st was declared a global day to honor workers.
So worker's Day is more than a day off. It’s a quiet reminder that the basic things we now expect—rest, fair hours, dignity—came from people who had to fight to be seen as human, not just workers.
