One of the most overlooked steps in chemical peel treatments is skin preparation.
Yet, it’s the difference between:
• predictable results
• uneven peeling
• post inflammatory hyperpigmentation
• or a client saying, the peel didn’t work.

No.
And this is one of the biggest misconceptions I see in clinic.
Many clients believe that visible peeling = successful peel
and no peeling = wasted money or poor technique. peel

My skin didn’t peel after my chemical peel… does that mean it didn’t work?
No.
And this is one of the biggest misconceptions I see in clinic.
Many clients believe that visible peeling = successful peel
and no peeling = wasted money or poor technique.
That assumption is false.
Let’s clarify this properly 👇
A chemical peel works at a cellular level, not a visual one.
Peeling is only one possible response not the goal, and not a measure of effectiveness.
Some clients peel.
Some don’t.
Both can get excellent results.
Why some people peel after a chemical peel
• Stronger peel strength or lower pH
• Higher corneocyte (dead skin) buildup
• Slower natural desquamation
• Compromised or thinner skin barrier
• Individual skin response and genetics
Peeling simply means the skin shed visibly.
Why some people DON’T peel and it’s still working
• Healthy, well functioning skin barrier
• Faster cell turnover
• Superficial or corrective peels designed for stimulation, not injury
• Proper pre conditioning of the skin
• Skin renewing at a microscopic level, not in sheets
👉 The peel still:
✔️ Stimulates cell renewal
✔️ Improves tone and texture
✔️ Reduces pigmentation over time
✔️ Boosts skin responsiveness to actives
You just don’t see flakes.
What actually determines peel success (not peeling)
• Skin assessment before treatment
• Correct peel selection for that skin type and concern
• Proper protocol and timing
• Post peel care and barrier support
• Long term skin response not day 3 drama
Healthy skin doesn’t always need to suffer to improve.
A truth clients need to hear
Peeling is not proof.
Results are proof.
Clearer tone, smoother texture, brighter skin, improved barrier function these matter far more than visible shedding.
As aestheticians, our job is not to damage skin to prove a point.
It’s to stimulate controlled renewal safely.
Education over expectation.
Skin science over skin drama.
If you’ve ever had a peel and didn’t peel,it doesn’t mean it failed.
It may mean your skin responded exactly as it should.
Millia are not stubborn pimples and treating them like one is why many clients make it worse

Millia are not stubborn pimples and treating them like one is why many clients make it worse.
Millia are small, white or yellowish cysts that sit under the skin, not on the surface.
They’re basically trapped keratin dead skin cells that didn’t exfoliate properly and got sealed in.
Common causes:
• Overuse of heavy creams or occlusives (especially around the eyes)
• Skin barrier damage from harsh exfoliation or over treatment
• Long term steroid or incorrect topical use
• Poor desquamation (skin not shedding properly)
• Using products not suited to the client’s skin physiology
👉 This is important: millia are not acne, so squeezing, needling at home, or aggressive scrubs only push the keratin deeper.
A real clinic case 👇
A client came into our clinic frustrated.
She had multiple millia around her eyes and cheeks and told us:
“I’ve tried scrubs, retinol, needles nothing is working. They keep coming back.
On assessment, the issue wasn’t stubborn skin.
It was:
• Compromised barrier
• Over-exfoliation
• Heavy product layering in a delicate area
So we did not rush into extraction.
Instead, we:
1️⃣ Paused all harsh actives
2️⃣ Repaired the skin barrier first
3️⃣ Switched her routine to lightweight, non comedogenic formulations
4️⃣ Introduced controlled, professional exfoliation at the right interval
5️⃣ Performed proper, sterile millia extraction only when the skin was ready
Result?
✔️ Successful removal
✔️ No trauma
✔️ No recurrence
✔️ Client finally understood her skin
How millia should actually be treated (professionally):
• Correct diagnosis (not everything white is acne)
• Barrier repair before removal
• Gentle keratolytics not aggressive peeling
• Proper extraction technique (when indicated)
• Long-term product correction to prevent recurrence
Millia are a skin management issue, not a quick fix problem.
This is why I always say:
Many skin problems aren’t product problems they’re assessment and education problems.
When you understand how the skin functions, you stop fighting it… and start working with it.
If you’re a clinic owner, aesthetician, or formulator and millia keep recurring in your clients the solution isn’t stronger products. It’s better skin logic.
