On the 2nd of June, 2026, the Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development hosted its annual Children's Day Spelling Bee Competition at the Adeyemi Bero Hall, Alausa, Ikeja.

The highly competitive event brought together brilliant representatives from six Local Government Education Authorities (LGEAs) across the state's education districts, including Alimosho, Kosofe, Lagos Island, Surulere, Ojo, and Ikeja.

Did You Know? ๐ŸŒŽโœจ

The fear of long words is called Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia. The 36-letter word was first used by the Roman poet Horace in the first century BCE to criticise those writers with an unreasonable penchant for long words.

It was American poet Aimee Nezheukumatathil, possibly afraid of their own surname, who coined the term as we know it now, in year 2000.
