NOW A GRANDMA I HAVE NEVER MET HAS PRAYED FOR ME — please say AMEN with me 🙏
Some time ago, I shared how Mrs. Kate reached out to me to enroll her children in my Igbo Language classes. Her goal was never just lessons; she wanted her children to build a real connection to their roots.
What happened afterward truly surprised me.
Just a few days into the classes, her children began talking enthusiastically about what they were learning.
Then the call came.
Grandma called from Nigeria.
She sensed that something had changed.
Mrs. Kate later told me that grandma said,
“Ha ka na-echeta asụsụ anyị… I thought they had forgotten our language.”
In that moment, distance disappeared.
Generations were reconnected—through language.
Never underestimate grandmas.
She immediately began praying for her grandchildren.
And she prayed for me too.
A grandmother I have never met,
whose grandchildren I teach only through a screen,
lifted me up in prayers.
Preparing meaningful learning experiences for children takes time, effort, and mental energy—but moments like this remind me that it is completely worth it. I feel deeply blessed.
This work is about identity.
It is about roots.
It is about helping children understand where they come from.
This is the heart of what I do.
To every parent in the diaspora still asking if teaching your child their mother tongue truly matters—
it does.
Let us not allow our languages to fade with us.
Let us pass them on with pride, purpose, and love.
Thank you, Grandma, for your prayers.
Amen. Amen. Amen. 08033372854

WHAAAAATTTT? ... just a simple rhyme?

Mrs. Ivy called me (real name withheld ). She heard about me from a client. According to her, my client told her about the positive changes she noticed in her children since she registered them for Igbo classes with me. She also heard the children usually make reference to a rhyme learnt in class. So, she became curious.

Well, I usually use Igbo rhymes to teach morals. I make my students to write it down, interpret it and sing it. and once they learn it, the next assignment is to teach mum and dad to sing the rhymes too. Ewoooo 😂

Mrs. Ivy came to my DM. I asked her why she was so intentional about letting her children learn Igbo. I always ask this question to be sure we have a common vision and we are working towards it. Her response melted my heart.

“Culture is important.”

“I want my children to be able to communicate when grandma calls.”

“I want them to feel connected when we visit Nigeria.”

As she spoke, I could see the emotion behind her words. For her, knowing your language is a bridge between modern identity and ancestral heritage.

Her children can speak perfect English, but she wanted something deeper—CONNECTION .

She said,

“They must not grow up foreigners to their own roots.”

Today, I had the privilege of welcoming her children into my Igbo Language Learning space.
Thank you Mrs. Ivy for trusting me with your children.
Come January, our classes will kick off fully.

To every parent in diaspora reading this—
Your children don’t have to grow up disconnected from their language and culture.
They can speak English confidently and still learn to speak their mother tongue proudly.

If you ever desire that cultural link for your child, our doors are open.

Please let's uphold our heritage.
