Abdul Qudus Akinwunmi

The pious and ascetic Imam Abdullah ibn al-Mubarak, may God have mercy on him, said: “I borrowed a pen in Syria, and I forgot to return it to its owner. When I arrived in Merv, I looked and found it was with me, so I went back to Syria and returned it to its owner!”

The distance between Merv and Syria is 3000 km!

Abdullah ibn al-Mubarak said May God have mercy on him:

I came to Sufyan al-Thawri on the eve of Arafah and he was kneeling.

His eyes were overflowing with tears, so he turned to me,

and I said to him: Do you know who the loser is today?

He said: The one who thinks that God will not forgive him.

Lata'if al-Ma'arif

عن علي بن أبي طالب رضي الله عنه :
أنه رأى رجلاً يسأل بعرفات ، فقَنَّعه بالسوط ( ضربه) ، وقال : ويلك !!
في مثل هذا اليوم تسأل أحداً غير الله !

العِقد الفريد / ابن عبدربه الأندلسي (٣٣٦/٢)

By God, a servant cannot utter a single glorification of God, nor perform a single prostration in prayer, nor recite a single verse, except with God's help.

Ibn al-Qayyim, may God have mercy on him, said:

Do not think that it is your own self that has led you to do good deeds; rather, you are a servant whom God loves.

So do not squander this love, lest He forget you.

Umar ibn Abd al-Aziz, may God have mercy on him, said:

Do not be among those who follow the truth only when it aligns with their desires and reject it when it contradicts them. For then you will not be rewarded for the truth you followed and punished for what you rejected, because in both instances you were merely following your desires.

قال محمد بن ثابت البناني :
ذهبت ألقّن أبي وهو في الموت ،
فقلت : يا أبة قل لا إله إلا الله
فقال : يابني خلِ عني ، فإني في وردي السادس أو السابع
